My friends African Grey has escaped. They are distraught. He has been gone since Sunday. We have done posters, police, searches etc, to no avail.
How long can he survive outside??
(We are in Penmaenmawr, North Wales)

Keep parrots myself Alison, lost a couple in past, suggest you get up at crack of dawn, go out to which area which you think it maybe in, and listen & watch very carefully, take binocoulars and
scan the hedgrows, if the parrot is there, it may have crows,magpies etc making a fuss round it, also listen for anything unusual, one of my parrots was gone for three days, and it was screaming for me, just jumped straight on my hand,
however, you have large raptors in wales,good luck with it, if you cant find it, or give up hope we might be able to help, Email us direct if that is the case, and will explain more; regards;

Don't hold your breath, I have just paid £700 for one last week and I have asked about clipping it's wings for that reason. If it were to escape what chance of getting it back, as it is so tame few people would be that honest.
As for surviving outside, Wales is not the warmest part, here in south east kent we have flocks of green parakeets in the local parks been their twenty years or so but this is a milder climate.
My first grey called Joey was with me 32 years, I cried over him and I am a man (i think) So sorry for your mates.

Depends on the temperature at night, that is the problem, especially when they are from Africa originally, & stay indoors most of their lives.
You have to go around to your neighbors & ask, put the cage outside, with his food in it...That sometimes works.
But, if someone found it, they may keep it because you were so careless. ALWAYS clip an exotic birds wings. It may be cute when the fly around the house, but not when the fly out of the house...

Someone here in American lost a cockatiel, I know one thing they did was record their own voice and played it in the 'garden' constantly in hopes the bird would hear it and come back.

Worth a try if you are desparate, best of luck, it is always sad to lose a pet.

Try looking on Birdline uk. they have lots of found birds on there from all over the country. you can also get in touch with them and ask them to post a missing ad.

Hope they get the bird back. i lost my Senegal about a year ago and i know how heart breaking it is.
