The Bible itself does not make the claim that the earth is only some 6,000 years old. The problem is that too many interpreters read into the Scriptures this understanding.
The book of Genesis contains the national sagas of ancient Israel in the form of poetry, song, story, genealogies and histories. As such it is a valuable record of this people's encounter and relationship with God (as well as for guidance and insights into our own contemporary relationship with God), but it is not an anthropological or science text, and should not be used, in my opinion, to account for (or discount!)earlier ages, peoples, creatures and biologic processes that are not within its scope of knowledge.

The dating is bogus radiocarbon dating is only good for 5,000 years plus it another fraud like the alleged piltdown man and other well known frauds the Bible says of mankinds exhistance dates from 4026 BCE the earth is a lot older than mankind and over the years some disreputable alleged scientists have tried to pull all kinds of frauds only to discovered later and proven wrong as usual Gorbalizer

Of course the earth isn't 6,000 years old. Anyone who believes that has their heads completely buried in the sand. Every single scientific discipline, from geology to cosmology to paleontology to biology and all the others have substantial proof that the earth is somewhere around 4.5 BILLION years old. The evidence is overwhelming, comes from thousands of sources, is cross-verified by all of the sciences, and has been verified over hundreds of years by thousands and thousands of different scientists from all countries and of all religious persuasions.
Given that, the recent find is just another piece of the puzzle that helps us better understand our history, our evolution, and the timelines that underscore life on earth. This one single piece of evidence only adds another small piece to the already overwhelming data that verifies the age of the earth and the evolution of life on it.
Of course, the nutcases who believe the earth is only 6,000 or so years old never actually LOOK at any of the scientific evidence, and probably couldn't understand it if they did, because of their ignorance and closed minds...so they'll tell you that carbon dating is unreliable (it isn't, and doesn't matter if it is, as there are multiple ways of verifying dates of fossils), etc. Sad, ignorant, silly people.

Either the Bible is wrong,or carbon dating is wrong.Or they are both wrong.There is no proof of the age of anything.There is no basis of comparison.There is no proof of the age of the scrolls,so who knows?I just wouldn't worry about it because it's unanswerable,anyway.
