A former co-worker made swedish meatballs in a crock pot and added sour cream a big dollop of grape jelly as the secret ingredient.

I've looked all over the internet.... no luck. I am NOT looking for chili and jelly meatballs. I am NOT looking for swedish meatballs with white or light gravy.

I am looking for swedish meatballs in a brown gravy.

I hope you can help!!

Thanks for all your input... however, still not exactly what I am looking for.

** the sour cream and grape jelly were added to the gravy, not the meatball mix.**

**again, no chili sauce or cocktail sauce and jelly... that recipe is all over the place and those are a bit like sweet and sour tangy meatballs.... not swedish.**

* I don't know how they eat these in Sweden, but I'm looking for something like what you'd find in a typical 'swedish meatball' frozen dinner... little tiny meatballs cooked in a brown gravy.**

I make fabulous swedish meatballs from scratch, with coffee and nutmeg in the gravy mix... it's fabulous.... but messing with that recipe is not what I want, either...

I wish I could find this co-worker, because I can't.... and her recipe was soooooo great.

use your regular brown gravy recipe, omit the sour cream and add 1 small jar of grape jelly. that's all I do. (I also have used the frozen precooked meatballs and it was great!)

I highly doubt the original used grape jelly, I'm not sure I've ever even seen grape jelly for sale in Sweden.

However, in Sweden it is traditional to eat Lingonberry Jam (called 'lingonsylt') with meatballs, and since Lingonberry aren't exactly common anywhere else, I think grape jelly is a pretty good approximation.

Here's a pretty good recipe, in English (and a nice photo of how it's usually served): http://www.sweden.se/templates/cs/Print_CommonPage.aspx?id=12926

I'll warn you now, what I've been served as Swedish meatballs in other countries, bear a slim resemblance based mostly on shape, to what you'd get if you were served them in Sweden. But do try the recipe, it's the real thing (and honestly, the gravy, usually out of a packet, make any kind of gravy you like, any way you like :)
