In the past three years I have gained almost 40 pounds! I've been active and exercise often. I am and have always been a big eater and I didn't gain weight untill three years ago. I'm 22 now and I think this is part of my body maturing. I feel comfortable with my weight even though I have a pear-shaped body type (the one with a bigger butt). I have a scale that measures body fat percentage and mine is 18% . I went from 190 pounds to nearly 230 pounds. my health is excellent and I wonder why I suddenly started gaining all of this weight?

Maybe some of the weight you hold from eating isn't completely burned.

If you only have 18% body fat, I bet you gained more muscle then fat! Don't forget that muscle weighs more then fat!

hope this helps!

You are a guy and you are 22. You are at exactly the right age where you have finally stopped growing and your bones have solidified. 40 pounds, however, is a big weight gain for end of growth. Some weight gain is normal for this phase, but the problem may be that you are still eating the way you were when you were still growing. Your body's demands are not as great now and you are not burning it off as quickly. You may want to start cutting back your overall intake and start eating healthier foods. More water, fruits and veggies; less fried foods, fats and junk.

How tall are you? Proportionality of weight to height is the important thing.

But if you are a man, I'd be concerned, that so much weight is going to your rear end, instead of to your belly or muscles.

You are probably, but not for certain, just past puberty. so that is not a probable factor.

If you are not very tall, I'd suggest you see a doctor about losing 30 pounds. 200 pounds is OK, but 230 might be dangerous. At age 22, you feel healthy. At age 42, you won't.

You work out and exercise?
What do you do? What is your diet like? You must have changed something.

Also, are you an astrological Pisces, or Pisces rising? Seriously, no joke or pun intended here--but Uranus just moved into Pisces starting about three years ago, which will cause bodily changes in Pisces--influenced people.

If you're working out, then it could be just muscle that you are gaining. Bulk muscle. Your BMI sounds like it's good. I would be more considered if you were actually gaining inches instead of pounds. Inches mean fat in a lot of areas. Muscle weighs more than fat. Try intaking more protein and drinking more water. Don't weigh yourself immediately after you exercise or at the end of the day. Do it first thing in the morning, like after a shower.

Obesity is a condition in which the natural energy reserve, stored in the fatty tissue of humans and mammals, is increased to a point where it is a risk factor for certain health conditions or increased mortality. Obesity develops from the interaction of individual biology and the environment. Excessive body weight has been shown to correlate with various diseases, particularly cardiovascular disease, diabetes mellitus type 2, sleep apnea, and osteoarthritis.[1] Obesity is both an individual clinical condition and is increasingly viewed as a serious public health problem

Try exersising and eating healthy. Goodluck!

10 pounds a year for a growing boy is not all that extraordinary. If you keep gaining 10 pounds a year now that you are 22 then you should worry.

Stress? A new job, school, etc.?

Even with exercise, stress will pack on the pounds, but generally more around your mid-section.

My body completely changed when I hit 19, so I understand. However, I lost weight. C'est la vie.

"Gosh ar2425!
I sincerely believe there is a perceptive device, hidden deep inside the brain, that alerts us when we stray from moderation.
Please pick a time when you can sit down and relax ... to "get in touch" with your device. I believe your perceptions can win out; however, after you discover the answer, you'll be obliged to face whatever the truth is about your weight gain.
Of course, your not alone at all! I've fought it too, but, I had to admit to myself a special weakness for ice creme. Finally, after eating myself sick ... I gave it up (it was just the taste that was appealing). I got into the habit of eating fruit instead of any sweets. In fact, blueberries have more antioxidents that any fruit on earth. I'm a believer in fruits and vegetables and my weight is down to, almost, normal.
The best of luck to you! Don't give up until you reach your goal. You can do it! You have the strength inside you and, deep down, you know it!"
