Sit in a chair, pinch your nostrils together, and put your head down below your knees. It may take several minutes to control the bleeding. Applying a cold pack to the nape of the neck may also help slow the bleeding. If the bleeding cannot be controlled within 1/2 hour - see the doctor. He/she will likely either cauterize the broken vessel, or pack the nasal cavity with gauze.
Never lean your head back when you have an active nosebleed - this will cause you to swallow blood. Blood is a natural emetic - and you will be guaranteed to blow chunks.

You lean your head back and pinch the top of your nose until the bleeding stops. Also, apply a cold ice pack to the area. If it doesn't stop within about 5 to 10 minutes and bleeding is severe, get to a hospital.

You don't need to lean your entire body, you can drop your head forward & down. This position protects your airway. Apply pressure to blood vessels by pinching the nasal bone between your eyes for no less than 5 minutes. If bleeding continues, pinch for another 5 minutes. Repeat as needed. Avoid leaning back. This position opens your airway and can make you vulnerable to asphyxiation. Also, avoid swallowing blood. This can make you nauseous and can make you vomit which will complicate matters.

Forward, apply light pressure to the bridge of the nose, grab something cool to apply. If you lean back, it just makes the blood go down your throat into your stomach, which upsets your stomach.

You are supposed to pinch off that nostril and lean forward. Leaning back causes all that blood to run down your throat.

I don't know, but once I saw on Sex and the City, when a guy had a bleeding nose, he took a clean tampon, broke it in half, and put the pieces in his nostrils to soak up the blood. It was pretty funny and I guess it would actually work. (Only do this if at home by yourself).

you lean forward, pinch and hold the nose until it goes away. if you lean back, blood will go to the throat and could choke you.

Lean backwards and put ice on your nose so that the blood dries up faster and stops the nose from bleeding.
