I have not stolen a bicycle. Or anything else. Ever.
But, to answer your question: they probably just get trashed or sold on to poor, cheap rotters who only care that they're saving money.
Some advice for the future – spend less on the bike and more on the lock.

I did a long long long time ago. I took two different bikes that weren't locked up. I used them for spare parts, and trashed the rest. No my parents never knew. I've also had a couple ripped off as well. So Karma caught up with me. I suggest you get a long thick cable and use a hardened steel lock on it. Run the cable through the frame and both wheels and the bike rack to secure it. If they really want it they'll really have to work for it. Good luck.

A guy found his bike that was stolen on e-bay. Happens frequently.
He got it back after contacting authorities.
Always record serial numbers of expensive items, including bikes, to help make your claim.
You could also put your contact info on a piece of paper...with a note saying that the bike is stolen, and stick it in your handlebar opening (take the cap off). In case anybody takes it to a shop...mechanics check for that I believe.

Usually they are just used by the people who steal them, or sold on the £1 billion a year black market. In terms of how you can protect yourself from bike theft, wrap black duct tape around the chasis (to make it less attractive to criminals) and lock it with a D-Lock.

Sounds like you're doing something wrong.
You should get a bike lock.

They go to bicycle purgatory. Maybe you should buy crappier bikes.
