It's not a silly question. Our mouths are teeming with bacteria and are far "dirtier" than the family dog's. The rhinovirus that causes colds is present in the nasal passages and oral cavity at all times. When the numbers of bacteria build up and overwhelm us, we "get a cold". If you kiss someone who has a cold, you're literally coating your tongue and lips with rhinovirus. This virus is easily transmitted from one person to another. You are very likely to develop cold symptoms because you're taking in millions of bacteria at once. One way to help reduce the number of colds and the chances of catching one is to practice frequent and good oral care (brushing & flossing, dental rinse).
Note to "Twinkle", try reading the entire question before shooting off your mouth and looking like an idiot afterward.

Yes. Colds spread through close contact and through the air. You can catch a cold from someone walking down the street or by kissing someone, and/or while having sex.

A cold, and many other illnesses, can spread through touch or mucus - including kissing.
Being intimately close to someone who is sick, you can also easily catch something that is airborne.

Of coarse it can spread. I never get sick when my husband is sick, but if I'm sick my husband always gets sick. I think it has a lot to do with your own immunity.

I doubt that. You can get a bad cold if you were drinking from someone out of their own cup.
