This is easier said than done.
Firstly, the entry points. A complete overhaul of the Channel Tunnel security and port security is supposed to have happened, but several newspaper reports have shown that few customs officers actually bother to stop vehicles, check paperwork and ask for random searches of vehicles. Same with ports, where time spent in port costs the boat companies thousands of port charges. Tighter security would also mean that people become reluctant to travel, and the sheer cost of the extra precautions would be an issue.
Also, we don't know who is even here, and the current immigration rules mean that there is a backlog of people, who have been rejected or have destroyed their documents and make finding out any details difficult. Few illegal immigrants speak English either, and rarely if ever use their real names.
The current rules also mean that any person who is skilled- a teacher, doctor, engineer and the like- can almost certainly secure a visa even where they have entered illegally.
The Human Rights Act also creates a problem as it forbades the forced removal of some countries citizens, and also allows the person liberty, meaning they often disappear.
I also feel we have created much of the problem. Britain is often viewed as a money machine for many immigrants, with the promise of benefits, even where a person has not contributed to the state, and many people remain on benefits for years- countries such as France have a time limit of around 6 months where a person can claim benefits, except disability allowances. The sheer generosity of these handouts also means that there is little incentive to work.
One proposed idea is the citizenship test, testin Britich history, culture, politics and language, which all immigrants must then sit and pass before entering the country- Australia, the US and Germany have similar tests. This test would entitle the person to live and work in this country.
But I think any measures would involve radical change, including the scrapping of the current immigration policy, an overhaul of antional security, and the breakaway form Europe, due to our obligations on immigration, set by Brussels.

Simple answer - YES

Complex answer - YES. We must close our borders NOW. We are constantly getting huge waves of eastern europeans coming over (willing to work) but have no jobs for them - In London alone their are 300,000 Polish people without jobs - not through laziness but just through lack of jobs. These people are willing to work for less than what any English person can afford to live on so as an employer you would go for the cheaper option which is not fair on citizens of this country. As well as this, the more muslims we get over here the more this country is going to go crazy with revolt. The muslims are spreading an evil word - all of them are sympathetic to what happened here last July - they understand. What I don't understand is that if they hate England so much why are they living here. They are all contradictory people who have very shallow minds which are easily warpped by these radical Immans. They are lonors and losers and we dont need them here. My ultimate point is this - In London there are 7 million people - 2 million of these people were not born here and out of those 2 million people ONLY 55,000 are on the pay role. Now please tell me why we need more people who have never paid into our country coming here to live off our taxes and give nothing back? We don't - so yes, we should close the floodgates now before the water gets too deep!

I think they should, & then N America...& Canada, & send the bad ones back.
Funny, I was thinking about something this morning. When the US was settled, there were problems, but people from Europe moved here to make thing better for themselves & make a country that turned out pretty well. (Except for the current govt, but that is another story). Lately, the Southern hemisphere is moving into the Northern, & there are religious fanatics who try to kill & change us till we are like them. I personally think the Southern hemisphere should stay where they are & the Northern should stay where they are. We weren't doing badly until they started coming North...

No, like the USA, I think you should keep your borders open until everyone else has moved in with sufficient numbers to push you, and those like you, out - basically, a peaceful invasion and/or takeover of your country.

Like elsewhere in the world (entire continents) where other ethnic groups have, or have gained, a majority, there will soon be, in perhaps just two to four decades, very few people of European ancestry still living within the United States. Considering the current immigration trends, it appears much of Northern Europe (Germany, France, and the UK) will not be far behind.

It is would be too little too late ,now ! The West should have had its border closed long time against the massive immigration of Muslims & Africans. They brought nothing with them but hate, shish-kibab, poverty & overloading the social system. Now, when i travel to France, i think i am in Algeria or Nigeria. When i go to England, i think i'm in Pakistan, India or Congo. In Germany, i think i'm in Istanbul or Romania. I remember when i was a kid & travelled with my parents, my father would point out to me the forigner from the crowd of French. Now, i need to point out the French, from the crowd of foriegners.

I don't think they can due to EU laws. The Romanian government have already warned Britain that they cannot turn people away, once they are part of the EU. I'm not sure of the details exactly, sorry!

Britain can't close its borders due the world economy. You're right, if they started monitoring tight control of immigration and illegals and asylum seekers, it would be about 20 years too late.
