The answr to this is that of course Jesus was Dark in appearence. Don't forget he was actually born in Bethlehem, and then travelled to Egypt, howver, colour wise there will be little difference. The blonde Jesus is a figment of european artists imagination. Remember thiugh, that many of these early painters, had never seen eastern men.

It might be worth saying that in traditional depiction of gods and godly figures, it was believed in many cultures, Greek and Roman for example, that gods/godesses had pale skin and blond hair. For example in the Bacchae, the god Dionysus is portrayed as a young athletic man with blond curly hair.
This belief probably affected typical Roman depictions (the first ones) of Jesus in mosaics and paintings, and it had a snowball effect onto medieval and later paintings.

NOT ALL!
~~~~`
All the people on this planet Earth are descendants from the first couple -
Adam and Eve. We are ALL just shades of that same colour !
Hold a sheet of Real White and Real Black paper up against your skin.
I can tell you "for certain" that your skin colour matches neither of these
paper colour samples. We are all "off white - or - BROWN !
WE ARE ALL OF THE SAME COLOUR because we are all indeed
descendants of that couple. Because of protective pigmentation we
are of different shades indeed.
What a beautiful example of how OUR MAKER designed us and built
a protective system into our skins to protect us from the suns rays !
Few people realize that The Bible does not say anything in opposition to
what is referred to as "mixed marriages". This is precisely why.
If "mixed marriages" do not work in our society, as it is today, it is because
of the arrogance of man. To "prove" superiority they often use gross
misinterpretations of Bible passages or misapply a Bible passage to
make it look like it proves them correct.
He was born in Bethlehem.
His parents fled with him to Egypt after his birth so that King Herod would not be able to murder him.
There are people in Lebanon, Iraq, Mexico, etc with blue eyes and blonde hair...so what?
I can't think about Jesus and Beckam at the same time, or really blasphemous dirty thoughts run through my mind.
He was dark, with probably curly hair, strong cheek bones, and never forget that Bible said he looked very ordinary, he wasn't special in his appearance, so he was neither the handsomest man nor the ugliest one. I think that Leonardo da Vinci was the one who made his image as blue eyes, light hair man, because it was according to the fashion of his time, and as someone already answered, the point was to make Jesus look like one of us.
Yes, he should be of a brown complexion, but you need to consider the history of the portraits of Christ. Back in the medieval times they used a male subject of some sort to create his image. Most medieval icons are based off of some person. Sometimes it would be the exact portrait of the person, but in Christ's case it was not. We went over this in my art history class. Unfortunately, I don't have my book with me while writing this, but they used alot of religious icons throughout the Catholic faith.
Questions about Jesus, or Questions designed to convert or recruit people to Jesus are simply a waste of time. People have already decided for the most part if they believe in the fiction written in the bible. People who feel God talks to them have psychological problems because hearing voices is a psychological illness. %-}
The idolisation of JC is mainly a Roman Catholic thing. He is depicted more like a roman than a Middle eatern person, because it suited the church.
Of course He wasn't blond, friend. But in the past it was important for people to think He was one of them. Though the pictures still linger, we know better.
Bless you
