Islam is an Ultra Right-Wing movement. In the historic marriage of Left + Islam, now that we see the lovers have settled in together nicely, after their marriage (911), who is calling the shots?
Leftists of course believe they are "using" Islam in the ultimate insane exercise of "ends justify means" rationale, but the Muslims have proven that this faustian bargain has a chance to bring the world back 2000 years into the greatest nightmare right-wing reality we could ever imagine.

Ohhh my head hurts just reading this. Your question: who's leading who....Simple answer. Depends on whose media you're listening to. The American Left will always say the are in control of the situation. I think that's the definition of being on the left... being oblivious to the complete reality. And the Islamic Right will, similarly, think in unidirectional solutions to their perceived problems, validating the American Left's platform.

, abolishment of slavery where in past the world did not recognize any human rights

Islam gave women the right to divorce husband for his bad looks beside other things.

The Islamic fundamentalists have far more in common with the radical religious right wing christian fundies that have hijacked the US government. (intolerant, nationalistic, moralistic, rigid ideology and absolute conviction that NED (non-existent deity) is on their side)
It is in fact the Bush Doctrine of democracy by force that has largely inflamed the Islamic world....like they needed inflaming.
