newborns sleep an average of 18-22 hrs a day. so relax, it's normal. enjoy the "down time" while baby is sleeping.. at 8 days old, babies only wake up to eat.

sometimes those little munchins are just really tired after coming into the world.
My first daughter was like that slept a lot.mind you she is 18 years old now and still does.
I would try to wake the baby by gently rubbing his cheek and picking him up and moving him around to see if you can wake him and offer milk. you need to see if you can get him awake enough to eat on a schedule.Sometimes babies jsut need a lot of sleep the first few weeks, if you are still worried call the hospital and ask there and maybe they can give you some more ideas. Good Luck!

My daughter began snoozing by the night at 6 weeks. That lasted for some month, then she replaced into waking up 3 or 4 situations a night for a mutually as. Then she went back to all night. She's 9 months now and wakes up generally as quickly as at night, yet some nights she sleeps all the way by. i think of a selection of of it relies upon on in the event that they are teething or dealing with a develop spurt. My daughter wakes up alot extra in many situations in the time of those 2 issues or whilst she purely discovered the thank you to do something new, like roll over, take a seat up, pull up, pass slowly. i don't be attentive to relating to the peeing each and every 10 or 15 min. it may desire to be commonplace, or it may desire to in all probability be a UTI. you are able to desire to ask his record.

My daughter slept a lot the first few days also. She actually slept through her entire first doctors appointment. It is perfectly normal. Remember, they just went through a very tiring ordeal just as you did. Just try to wake the baby to nurse or eat. It is easy to let them sleep when you yourself are tired. But you have to get the baby on a feeding schedule, especially if your nursing.

Don't worry about. But if you want, give your pediatrician a call, just for piece of mind.

Good Luck!

Babies sleep a lot,but if the baby has jaundice(yellow skin and eyes is a give away) then the babies sleep more and are harder to wake. Take the baby to the doc if you are really worried and if you think the baby has jaundice.

How is his diaper count? Is he breast fed or bottle fed? Is he jaundiced (looking yellow/orange)? Does he have a fever? If his diaper count is at least 6 and he is not jaundiced or feverish, then he is fine. If he has less than 6 wet/poopy diapers a day you have an issue and need to wake him up (same if he is jaundiced) to eat.
