Odds are he'll find his way back. No matter how "dumb" you think he is, it doesn't take feline intelligence.....they're all very good at naturally navigating back to their home. Even if they haven't been there long. I've known of strays that were removed from the home where someone had been feeding them for only a few days.....only to have them find their way back in a night or two.
And yes, if he's not neutered, he may be gone a while. But eventually he'll get hungry and tired and want to retreat. And don't expect your female cat to bring him home....or to find him. She probably couldn't care less because she knows he'll be back.
In the meantime, I hope he doesn't get hit by a car, drink anti-freeze, run into a sadistic person, or contract a deadly virus from another cat. You really shouldn't let your cats roam....it's too dangerous. I just watched an episode of Emergency Vets today and this poor woman had to watch her cat die because she had been out and gotten into some anti-freeze and the vets couldn't do anything for her. It was horrible and sad.....but the woman could've prevented all that heartache with one simple measure.

I have several cats that are go in and out of the house. My tom cat I used to worry about (Yes, ALL of my animals are fixed) because he would go out and be gone for days. But I also noticed that the female cats would also be gone for days. During the summer you really have no need to truly worry because there is tons of food out there for a cat to find. Once I had a tom that was gone almost 6 weeks. He did come back, slightly under weight but otherwise quite healthy and content to be home. It's natural for cats to roam the outdoors. The best thing to do is have one of those bright break away colors with the animals name, your name and contact information just in case something were to happen. Should your cat take off during the winter months, then you should be concerned simply because of weather conditions. Another thing to consider is the age of your cat also. But for now, if your cat is young, healthy and in good condition... there really is no need to be worried. There are a million things in nature that intrigues a cat's senses. *smile*

I'm sorry your cat is lost. Call your local animal shelters to see if he's been picked up. They will put him down if they think he's a stray. Look for him all around your neighborhood calling his name. Ask your neighbors. Show them pictures of your pet. Leave his pet bed or towels that he's slept on outside the door so that he can track his scent home easier.
If he comes back get him neutered and buy him a collar with his name and phone number on it. It's safer to never let cats outside.

It is entirely possible that he will. My cats now will go away sometimes for days and come back home. They are much smarter than you give them credit for. I've had some come back and some never come back. I hope he does come back for you. I am a cat lover too and I know the heartbreak. It's like loosing a child.

Some cats do this and come back.He might have gotten stuck in somebody's garage or if he isn't fixed he might be courting the ladies. If you are in a rural area, wild animals might have waylaid him. Some cats have been gone weeks and still come home.I wish for you that he does come home.
