I say your chances are good that you will end up kidnapped and as a maid for these people, they sound shady to me.
BTW, we need a good live-in maid/housekeeper, have any friends?

I agree. The letter from the boyfriend wont get you anything. It also depends on how old are you? If you are underage, they probably wont mind or care. If you are over 18 then they will suspect that you are coming to stay and that wont go well.
You need to prove you have money and money and money in order to get a US visa.
If you show them the airplane tickets with return fare, that may help. Also if you show that you are in school or have a good paying job which means you dont need to end up as an illega allien.
Honestly getting a US visa is like winning the lottery, unless you have money, they they dont care, even if you are a terrorist.

My first Q to you would be why would you not tell the truth?
That out of the way, allow me to relate a story. We, my wife and I, sponsored a student from Holland via the AFS exchange plan. It went OK until he decided he wanted to stay here and work. He was in #2 in his class of culinary arts and he cooked stuff. All h*ll broke loose! We had to go in to talk with INS at least a dozen times, we had to show them our financial records, our bank statements, our employment - including a history! - and we had to sign various formal agreement letters. Just so he could work here! And this was waaaay before 9/11. We spent over a thousand dollars in phone calls, he finally got permission and a mere two years later told us there were no "good" jobs for him here and he went back to Holland. He just got his PhD (equivalent) in Anthropology and teaches in Amsterdam. If I ever see him guess what we'll talk about!!
For you, however, I wish you all the best! Happy Birthday! Enjoy yourself and be careful on the stairs!

I don't recommend you take a letter from your boyfriend there, they'll think you want to settle in with him and stay in the States. On the contrary, it's better to take proof of why you would return to La Republica Dominicana, like evidence you study at a university, or something similar.
