I know that if you are both 18 and over it doesn't matter. However, what is considered legal when one individual is over 18 and the other is under 18? Is 17/19 yo legal? 16/20? 17/21? 16/21?

in most states it is considered statutory rape for an adult 18 or over to have sex with anyone under 18 , now you might not get caught but you risk going to jail , and in jail statutory rapists dont get looked at in a positive light regardless of age , once your charged it doesnt matter what the story is , on paper you are a rapist and that is the bottom line .

I can`t believe most of the answers before mine, who think the age of consent is 18. The answerers seem to be American. Such ignorameouses.

In fact, the age of consent in most American states is 16 (17 in a couple) and even that is among the highest in the world. The most common age of consent in the world is 14.

Some US states have "Romeo and Juliet" exemptions whereby
sex by someone a year or two under the age of consent is not prosecutable if the partner is within 2 or 3 years of the same age. A couple of states have a blanket R&J exemption if the couple gets married (a recent scndal in Kansas). Other states give no grace. In Canada, where the age of consent is 14, there is a Romeo & Juliet exemption if both partners are between 12 and 14 ( the current new Conservative government is proposing to change things to a 16 year old age of consent with a Romeo & Juliet exemption of 14 if partner is 19 or younger).

The current American tizzy about older men (occasionally a woman) taking advantage and seducing young, pubescent teenagers, often over the internet, is mostly a canard. A University of New Hampshire professor's survey of supposedly exploited kids found that 82% of such children 13 to 15, mostly girls who wished to be deflowered or taken care of by older men (for various reasons) knew exactly what they were getting into and were aoften taking the initiative. There has always been a proportion of such youngsters; that's why so many states (until quite recently) allowed girls to get married in their early teens.

It is illegal for anyone over 18 to have sex with anyone under 18 even if they have been dating for two years priorm to the 18 year olds birthday.

It is also illegal for a 16 year old, and a 17 year old to have sex with a 21 year old. A 21 year old could have sex with someone who is 18 or above, however if you are over 21 and cant find anyone your age to or above to have sex with you may need to find new places to hang out.

It is never legal to have sex with a minor.. another perv on here.
can't you find someone your own age to be with.. or do they all know you like little kids and don't want to have anything to do with you..
you can go out with anyone over 18 then they are considered adults also
watch your step or you will be in the pen with my ex husband.. nice place they have there ..
you should enjoy being in there with them .. they hate people who screw around with kids.
hope you get what you deserve just thinking about such a thing and writting it for everyone to see..

dude. seriously. 18 is the age, anything younger than that is illegal. You cannot have sex with a minor if you are an adult. 18 is considered and adult.

an 18 year old having sex with anyone younger than 18 is considered statutory rape.

In most states it's two years (last i checked) so 17/19 would be fine but 17/20 would be pushing it.
