My Lab is the best watch dog ever!! He barks at my shadow following me!!

Usually it's a quality that's instilled in certain breeds. We had a lab that barked at strangers, that was deterring. However if they approached her she would then be friendly. A lab is a big friendly dog, good with kids, not usually 'watchdog material'
But it's possible a trainer might be able to instill some watchdog like qualities in your dog. Call and find out.

If you wanted a watchdog, you should have purchased a dog or puppy of a breed that is more aggressive. Labradors are not meant to be watchdogs.

You can’t convert your lab to be a watchdog but you can try and train him to be one. You’d have to do this when the dog is still a puppy. Hire a trainer or do some research to instill watch dog qualities in your lab.

It will be diffcult because Labrador dogs r designed by nature to be work animals. Back in the day they were used to haul wood,people, well almost anything. Good luck. I love Labador dogs maybe it could just be ur pet. Make sure it gets lots of excercise Good luck Curious 2006

It's probablly not going to happen. I have had labs all my life. Although most are great about warning you when something is out there the odds of them actually attacking someone to protect you is very unlikely. It is not the labs nature which is why they are a family dog.

Labradors are so friendly...Don't make him mean, All you can do is when you have company get the dog real excited so he barks " like who's here " "who's here" and tell the dog to go see go see And the dog should get all crazy and bark like a dog.

I hope you really do mean a watch dog and not a guard dog. Labs aren't meant to be guard dogs but any dog who barks when someone comes to your door is a watch dog. A watch dog alerts you that someone's there and any lab I've ever seen does that.

Labs are faithful loving dogs no need to convert them they are good watch dogs and loyal ones at that. Just be sure to show him/her that they are appreciated when a job is well done..A dpg does not have to be mean or bite to be a good watch dog. a labs size is usually enough to keep things at bay..

You should have thought seriously about what qualities are important to you BEFORE you got the dog. Unless you got a bad bloodline that is willing to attack, (because it is due to bad breeding and not what it was bred to do, the dog would not be safe anyway) its not gonna happen
