yes it has to do with the fact the when you are cracking your neck you're actually cracking your cartilidge or what's there. you crack it enought you could have arthritis by 20. (if you are over 20, you could have it in a few years.)

The Docs say that cracking doesn't damage unless there is pain associated with the cracking. However, I have found that I feel better when I don't have a need to crack my joints. I feel like I have to crack them in order for them to feel and work correctly. I had a hand massage and they cracked and stretched all my fingers. I don't think they injured me, but my hands didn't feel right for a few weeks. What I have found is that when I work out with weights to make my hand and other muscles strong, then my joints seem to be more flexible, without seeming too loose. So, you might try working with some light weights (or yoga) on a few of the joints to see what happens.

He probably meant later on in life when you reach your golden years. I have heard the same about knuckle cracking and that turned out to be false. There is no link between knuckle cracking and arthritis. It's in the genetics- not something that developes because you crack something.
Have a great day!!!

I've been cracking my neck and fingers for 20 years and have no arthritis in either, yet my knees......i never cracked until my arthritis developed dramatically in them. It releases pressure in them.

Cracking anything can cause arthritis. Just because you don't have it doesn't mean you won't get it 10 years later. LISTEN TO YOUR DOCTOR! He is trained to know things like this......HE KNOWS WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT. It is like smoking; it may kill you in 20 years while killing someone else in 50 years. You never know! ;) Plus, it is annoying.

I have always heard that, the same as cracking your knuckles and anything else that can crack. I'm sure it's true. If the doc says, then the doc says!

i asked my dr. about that recently and he said no. cracking your bones is actually good for them cause it is releasing something from between the joints.
Then again i am having alot of trouble believing anything dr's say cause of all the trouble i am having lately.
