Whenever I lay down or sleep & even during the day I get stuffy nose and one of my nostrils closes up so tight that I can't breath except for through one nostril. After about 2 to 3 hours one of my nostrils opens up but then as soon as that one opens up the other one closes up instanly for about 2 or 3 hours and I hate it!!! I don't know what causes it & I have had this problem all my life & it makes me so irritated & uncomfortable that I have tried everything such as putting vicks vaporup in my nose, sticking a straw up my nose, Claritin &those breathe-right straps that you put on top of your nose. THOSE BREATHE-RIGHT STRAPS NEVER WORK & THEY ARE A WASTE OF MONEY!!!! PLEASE IF YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE OR IF YOU HAVE TIS PROBLEM HOW DO I STOP IT OR CURE IT!!!!!!

you poor thing I feel for you!
Since you have had it all your life Im sure you have tried alot but heres somethings you may not have
*dont use feather pillows or down comforters
*dont sleep with fan or air conditioner on
*BUY A HUMIDIFIER and sleep with it on
*steam your face (boil like a cup or two of water in a pan, then take it off the stove stick your face as close as tolerable to it, and cover your head with a towel to trap the steam in and try to stay in there for 7-10 minutes) that realllllly helps!then blow your nose as much as possible
*dont drink milk befor you go to bed
*dilute some eucalyptus oil and put it in your nose

You have allergies and you need something to break the cycle like a nasal spray designed for allergies. The doctor is the best one to see for this as the stuff that's over the counter only works on drying up the congestion it doesn't really treat the swelling.
See a doc anyway because you could have an infection too as a secondary symptom. Breathe right strips don't work for me either and most antihistamines make me loopy, even the non drowsy ones. Surprisingly though Benadryl may help you at night as it's the one that cuts the congestion the most effectively

I have the same problem and have learned to cope. During the allergy season I take a benedryl capsule and sleep proped up with pillows where my head is above my body. This keeps my breathing passages open and it allows me to get a good nights sleep.

I use a humidifier, it helps. I have terrible sinus problems along with allergies and haven't found anything that completely stops it yet. I think ragweed is really bad in the fall, it maybe one of your allergies

Have you gone to the doctor? It sounds like allergies. You'll need a prescription drug to help you.
