There are many references to the trinity in scripture.
(1 Peter 1:2 & 1 John 5:7) just to name 2. The Holy Spirit of God is not a "term".....He is a real, living person who indwells every true born-again believer. He is the 3rd person of the triune God.
We believe in one God...eternally existing in 3 distinct personalities: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Each with different functions.....but never inferior in nature to one another.

I hope this helps you a little bit...

The term holy spirit represent one of the three trinity. The Trinity is made up of 1. God 2. Jesus Christ 3. The Holy Spirit. The holy spirit is greater than an angel, why do you think there is so much empasize on having the holy spirit among christians. The holy spirit it not just a term it's an spiritually being just like God and Jesus Christ and all the angels. The holy spirit among christians is considered to be like an angel that sits on your shoulder telling you right from wrong. But most importantly the holy spirit is more than a angel it is an spirit that lives within you and it's is also confirmation to God that you are one of his children. The holy spirit plays an important role on earth among god's own and have many roles. For example speaking tongue's is confirmation that you have the holy spirit living within you. Well I hope this is enough cause I can go on but don't want to be writing a two page essay.

Holy Spirit
The third Person of the Holy Trinity, distinct from, but consubstantial, coequal and coeternal with the Father and the Son. The Holy Spirit is God in the fullest sense and therefore is not generated, but proceeds from the Father and the Son by a single spiration (Latin, spirare, to breathe).

The doctrine of the Spirit gradually unfolds in the Old Testament as an instrument of divine action in the created order. The Spirit of God is operative at the creation (Gn 1:2), and is seen as being present in the activities of such warriors as Joshua (Dt 34:9) and the prophets (cf. Is 61:1). In the New Testament, teaching about the Holy Spirit is further developed. It was by the “overshadowing” of the Spirit that the Blessed Virgin conceived Our Lord (Lk 1:35). The Spirit descended upon Christ at His Baptism (Mk 1:10), and strengthened Him against Satan in the wilderness (Mk 1:12). St. John’s Gospel (14:26; 15:26) describes Him as the “Counselor” or “Paraclete” (advocate), and it is revealed that the Spirit’s fullest mission will take place after the glorification of Jesus. It was after the Resurrection that the Apostles received the Holy Spirit from Our Lord, with the power to forgive sins (Jn 20:22-23). At Pentecost the Holy Spirit descended fully upon the Church (Acts 2:1-13), and the Apostles were conscious of the Spirit’s direct operation in their activities (Acts 11:12; 16:6). The Holy Spirit took part in the Apostles’ deliberations (Acts 15:28), and was conveyed to others by the imposition of the Apostles’ hands (Acts 8:17; 19:6). The Spirit has an important place in the theology of St. Paul, with his frequent contrasting between life in the Spirit and life in the flesh, and his description of the many gifts of the Spirit (cf. 1 Cor 12:4ff.).

The Holy Spirit is the expression of God’s boundless love, with the essential work of making the faithful more holy. This begins at Baptism, when the Spirit endows the soul with sanctifying grace. It continues throughout the life of the believer as he grows in faith and love, and exhibits the “gifts of the Holy Spirit,” which are wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety and fear of the Lord (Is 11:2-3).

The trintiy is the Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost. We also refert to the Holy Ghost as the Holy Spirit.

There is a difference between a spirit and a Holy spirit. as well. THe Holy Ghost or Holy Spirit is referring to a Divine spirit/ The Almighty God. There are also evil spirits. That being the devil and his own angels.

The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God. He is God's messenger and our Comforter. It is by the Holy Spirit that the sinner is convicted of his sin and brought to Christ for salvation. It is by the witness of the Holy Spirit that we have knowledge of Christ. The Holy Spirit is the one who impregnated Mary that the child Jesus might be born. It is the Holy Spirit that inspired the prophets of the Bible to set down God's word. It is blaspheming the Holy Spirit that sends men and women to hell. Not all angels are holy. Those that follow Satan are just as condemned as he is.

If you believe everything about you is Holy, and you happen to believe in a spirit, that makes it the "Holy Spirit."

Then again, there's a type that thinks the city they live in is perfect because THEY live there.

God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost (or Spirit).
God is the Father who is in heaven and everywhere.. he sent his son to earth to save the world through the virgin Mary as a man with no sins who took on the sins of the world so that we can believe in him and be saved from hell that all sinners go (and everyone is born with sin and a sin nature so we must repent), the Holy Spirit is hard for me to explain.. I think of it as an ongoing presense that God is and sends to keep me safe.
