If you saw a mother of two that needed help financially would you give her $1 to help her get back up on her feet and keep a roof over her kids head?

Of course, a hand-up is a lot different than a hand-out. I just married a couple years ago...I was a single parent for years & I know that $1 may not sound like much but it can mean a lot.

I can't stand people that are on the streets begging for money! I don't know about where you live, but where I am, everybody is hiring! I feel like I deserve what I've got, cause I worked for it, and I think that they could to. I always give kids a couple bucks here and there if they are short when trying to buy something, and I volunteer at different places that offer food to the homeless. I understand sometimes life deals you a crappy hand, but I also feel like there are ways to get around it. I don't have sympathy for people that are heavy into drugs and that's where all their food money ends up, its ridiculous! If I knew that my dollar was definitely going to help build that house, you bet I would. but honestly, now a days there are so many societies asking for donations and its sickening when you find out how little actually goes to the cause in which you were wanting to contribute to in the first place!

Yes i would and I have. Watch the movie pay it forward it will change the way you look at life. I make it a point at least once a month to help somebody less fortunate than I am. It can be the simple little gestures that make the most impact on a person. the next time you are at a drive thru for you coffee buy a couple of extra coffees and give them to the first city workers or construction workers you see, or pay for the person behind you in line at a fast food restaurant.

$1 wouldn't go far in putting a roof over one's head. However, I used to live in Phoenix, and I tried to help. I bought one lady and her kids some groceries, but she would only take nonperishable stuff because she didn't have a refrigerator. I occasionally would give homeless people on the streets my leftovers from eating pizza or something. I know there's a lot more a person could do, but you never know who will actually benefit from the help or who is taking advantage of you. But I'd always help someone in need if I thought they were sincere, especially someone with kids.

Yeah I would, but I'm not sure what it could get her. I would prolly rather give her some advice and a homecooked meal, and maybe some clothes for the kids, and a $10 giftcard for walmart just for the kids to buy some kind of toy, cuz even though they wouldnt need it (in comparison to food maybe), little kids need to feel special sometimes!

I would give what I could if I could know for sure that the person in front of me was being sincere. Right now, I tend to not give money to people on the street. I prefer to give to charitable organizations that help such people both here in North America and abroad.

How do I know where my $1 is going? It's not much, but when you don't have it to give,it is a lot. I would, and have before, buy something needed & give them that instead of the money. If they truly need it then you will be able to see the appreciation on their face. Then you can decide to give them $$ or not.

I that were truly the thing that would change her life... What if it really just changed her outlook on life? Would not a hug or a volunteer to help with something be as helpful? I ponder this, but being the way i am, I would.

as long as she was really going to use it for her kids, and not for drugs or anything else like that. I have seem alot of homeless people out with their "kids" that will go and spend the money on drugs. in fact this one time my husband gave this homeless guy a hamburger, and then he went inside Carl's JR(where I was WORKING at the time) and tried to return it. so you just cant really trust people.
