Yeah I saw the episode about it on South Park, but I don't think thats too reliable a source. Other than that and Tom Cruise hating psychiatry I dont know anything else.

Look up Xenu in wikipedia, or Scientology, or L. Ron Hubbard, all give very good informative summaries on scientology.
South Park actually portrayed it pretty well.

Let's see if I can answer this one without jumbling my words...
Scientology was created by Elron Hubbard who was a Science Fiction novelist in the 1950's.
They believe that Elron Hubbard was a leader reborn from years past. Unless you actually pay the money to take classes in Scientology, you don't actually get the information.
I don't know a whole lot about the religion but from what I've studied, I can tell you that they expect Elron Hubbard to be reborn as someone else in the future. They have a strong emphasis on the natural sciences and on scientific thought.
I agree that Scientology is a little different from the "norm" but I think Southpark took it a little far.
