A gun is an inanimate object, it cannot move nor does it have feelings. If I put a gun on the table it will not get up and go shooting people, killing them. It takes a person to pick it up and shoot someone, there is intent behind their actions. If guns are banned, if the world has no guns tomorrow, people will still commit murder regardless. A person can just as easily pick up a kitchen knife meant for cutting vegetables and stab someone. Take a pen intended for writing and use it as a weapon. Drive a vehicle and run over someone. You can ban guns, but that won't stop violence. First argument is stupid. Second argument is true. Third argument is true, except on the switch blades, anything can be used as weapon. Fourth argument somewhat true, guns are more deadly in the hands of people than say a knife but still, there's a lot of truth to it.

For your situation I would say try 9-1-1.
There are only several defenses against a firearm.
1)Body armor
2)Not being near a gun helps
3)a speedy zig zag escape
4)offensive maneuver ( this is when none o the other options are open) you have close the gap and control the enemies weapon.

To defend against a gun you need one of the following:
1. Something bulletproof between you and the gun
2. A very great distance between you and the gun
or 3. A very small distance between you and the gun and training, training, training, plus a bit of luck.
The best defence is a combination of options 1 and 2.

OK.. here's what i learned.
If the gun is pointed touching your head...
All at the same time:
move you head to the left
with your left hand grab under the handle of the gun.
"pushing to the right"
with your right hand grab the barrel, point your finger towards the opponent twisting in a forward motion breaking his finger.
throw it down to the floor ripping the gun out of the opponents hand.
than back up and point the gun at his hip.

Beg for Your life, and if he is using a 9mm tell him that its lock and then grab the Gun from him.
OR
Kneel down in front him pretend that you are begging and hit him in thhe Groin.
IF
She is a woman, move sideways grab the Gun and twist her arm.

Keep a knife handy ... a knife is sometimes more useful than a gun at close quarters. I cannot explain all the steps to disarming a firearm but you can go to youtube and search for silat suffian bela diri ... good vid about disarming knife and firearms, both assault rifle and pistol..

Run away and call 911. The chances of shooting a moving target in a critical area are extremely slim.

Open the door & throw boiling water or cleaning solvent in their face, then run like hell. Do the zigzag thing someone else suggested--if this is real. Which I doubt.
