if there is someone you do want to meet in person, ask a friend or two to come with you. I would just chat with a bunch of people and figure out which ones you think are trustworthy or not. The internet can be very tricky, so many people out there who act like someone they aren't. Be careful and good luck.

Don't.

But if you MUST.. then meet them in a well crowded area. Take a friend with you. Tell people where you are going. And don't think that someone is nice or your friend because they've talked to you online. There are a lot of sickos on the net. Just use your head. ANd if your gut tells you that it's not going well. Leave.

I met a girl on the net around 5 years ago. We began chatting, playing yahoo pool together and staying up late getting to know each other. I lived in Georgia and she lived in Canada. After 2 years of knowing her, I took the chance for a meeting in person. I drove 900 miles to meet her. We hit it off and have been together since. The net is great!!

well...as my previous experience just take it easy and you won't take risks...
let me explain better: don't start chatting as if you're searching for the big one....start chatting just to make new friends...and maybe luck will knock at your door and then you'll find the one you search for and you couldn't live without!
start trying more than one meeting site, the yahoo one is good but try also meetic!
I found my girlfriend this way and I'm really happy!
wish you the same!

Only communicate with US residents. The first time anyone asks for money or even hints that they need money, cut of communications with them. Never give any personal information out to anyone at all.

I would say talk for about six months on the computer and if you feel like your ready to use the phone. Do so for about a year then after that you should feel up to meeting someone. that is what i did and i was happy with my results
