O is the universal blood donor, but...the thing is , is that you have to make sure the RH factor matches too, You can't mix a rh positive with a rh negative. This is my line of work, so you either got a trick question in which the answer would be along the lines of O can be the donor as long as the RH factors match up, or a very generic question in which case the answer is simply O

Type A blood means the blood had "A" antigen and type B has "B" antigen, type AB has both, type O has neither. Any blood type can only accept what antigens it has or no antigen at all. Since O has no antigen it is universally accepted so its the universal donor. AB has both antigens have both so they can accept any blood so they are the universal acceptor.

That being said we move onto the genetics of blood type inheritance. One gene from each parent. If parent is O meaning no antigens, they cant contribute any antigens to the baby. If parent is AB, they can contribute either A or B. So the possiblities for the blood type of the baby of such parents are :

A from one parent, O from other making the baby type A
B from the one parent and O from the other making the baby type B. So the baby is either type A or B only.

So the baby is either type A or B. When you dont know for sure the safest bet is to give the baby type O which is the universal donor. As it has no antigens on it, the baby can accept it safely. However if you give either A or B or AB, one of the antigens will be alien to the baby as and so rejection will occur.

Hope this makes sense.

O is the universal donor, so can Give blood to anyone. AB is the Universal receiver so can TAKE blood from anyone. So, if you are unsure of what blood type the baby has, the safest route would be to do what hospitals do, and give the baby O blood.
This is because no other blood type has antibodies against O type blood.
Hope this helps. If not, let me know and I can explain further.

the first question will be what's the blood variety of the toddler. You record AB+ for one be certain and O? for the different. This toddler would have any blood variety because you do not say if the be certain O is + or -. Of the 5 listed back 2 do not let us know + or - so as that hinders issues yet O- is seen common, all blood sorts will take it and it really is nicely matched with both + or -. yet all of it really is loopy in view that blood banks be able to variety and pass tournament a donor to any recipient with none enter from you.

All I know is that type O (doesn't matter if it's - or +) can donate to all of the blood types. It's the universal type.
