the companies who ask for your social security # are most likely running credit checks.
if this is something you would like to avoid, do not give the ssn#, and go w/ a company who doesn't even ask for it.
it depends on which state you are in for the actual company names. in CA- I know that Mercury does not run a credit check.
Hope this helps.

Nearly all will run a check of your credit history. Keep in mind that when an insurance company does a credit check, it is considered a "soft hit" and will not change your credit score. This is because you are not actively seeking a loan or credit approval. Also, keep in mind that with most companies, the credit score is one portion of developing your "Risk Rating." Just because you have perfect credit does not mean you will get the best Risk Rating.

Almost all insurance companies run credit because insurance prices are credit-based. Even if you do not provide your SS# to the company, they can still get it from a prior insurance report. The credit check does not impact your credit score whatsoever, because, like the answerer above me stated, it is considered a "soft hit" and won't appear as an inquiry on the report.

It all depends on the state that you live in, here in CA its against the law to have someones credit score affect there premium. I know that in GA its required to have run someones credit, and this does affect the rate. Let me know what state you live in and I can check for you.

Leader Insurance will waive the credit check, if you like - but if you choose to waive it, you get the worst rates.
