no it sounds as if your kitty is asking for more food but don't give in. She will eventually know that she can't have more until she finishes that

Sounds like your cat is literally crying for some decent food. Iams is pretty poor quality stuff. By looking into a more premium food with a higher protein level and not a bunch of corn you would be doing her a great favor.
Canned food is also more satisfying for a cat. There, too, the premium foods (Science Diet is not a "premium" food) will be more satisfying for her. They will also do a better job of regulating her weight without having to reduce the amount that you feed her.
Cats should not just have "enough in her bowl". They should have two meals a day and what is not eaten should be taken up after 20 minutes or so.

Oh that is so catty! :-D You kitty is totally trying to train you! Don't give in to her or they'll be no turning back! Cats own us, we don't own them. It's amazing how good they are at getting what they want. It's possible she doesn't like the food, but you don't want her to get too finicky. Consider feeding her twice a day instead of once. That's also the preferred method if you're trying to regulate her weight. I will suggest to you, however, that Iams is no longer the quality food it used to be every since Procter & Gamble took it over. And there's been some controversy surrounding the company's treatment of cats and dogs in their laboratories. Consider a higher quality food like Nutro, Wellness or Innova. Even Science Diet or Royal Canin is better than Iams. If they sell it in a grocery store, it's typically a not a quality food. The better brands are found in the pet stores. Don't break the bank, but consider a brand that treats the animals more humanely. Good luck!

Sometimes cats meow for attention. Not all the time it is because of food. If she is eating the Iams then I would stick with what works. It sounds like it is just a mind thing. If she gets hungry enough (maybe she doesnt like the new diet food) she will eat it ... trust me. If you cat is overweight it is a serious problem. I am assuming that she is (else why would she be on a diet food) I would stick with the diet food. Obesity in cats leads to Diabetes which can kill them. It is a serious serious thing. I suggest you read up on Obesity in Cats try this website. Their information is very useful http://www.purina.ca/cats/nutrition.asp?article=195

mine does the same!
If the canned food stays in the bowl for a couple of hours it dries up and cats do not like it! That's why she asks for "fresh" food. Better put in her bowl the portion she eats immediately, and give
her fresh again later.
Buy small cans - I used to throw away most of the 400 gr. can, because "madame" would eat only the very first scoop.
I give mine per day 1 small Fancy Feast + dry food, which is always in another bowl.

I have 4 cats and they all have highly individual 'routines' they run on us... lol! I guess the real question is, did she do this prior to changing her diet?
You should be able to tell if she likes the food by how much she eats. If she is eating very little, I would assume she really doesn't like it. Sometimes giving just a couple of tablespoons of milk or a small taste of canned food will satisfy a need for variety without compromising the weight issue. Sometimes just tossing in a few pieces of additional food will satisfy a desire for 'servce' and attention from you.

I have a cat too and he gets sick of the same food all the time, just like any of us will. Get the cat some canned food and give him a little once in a while for a change.

Having had many cats myself and some experience in animal behavior and psychology... Your kitty is looking for your attention, and wants you to watch -or pet- her while she eats. She is looking to you for validation, as well as affection. Making sure that the food in the bowl is fresh, is a good idea.. . but try not to keep switching brands of food it can upset her tummy and give her the runs :(

Hello? She's the owner, she'll tell YOU what she needs, rofl. At least that's what they think.
Once a week I give mine a "treat" of canned cat food. Always something they like. After that, their finicky for a few hours and won't touch anything and cry for more, but I know if I give in, it will NEVER STOP. Then, after a few days on canned, their crying for dry and it just goes in circles.
So listen to the above, keep them on what you have them on. Once in a while throw in a treat, and if they aren't out of food, put in a few "new" bits that "smell" fresh so they think its new and your good to go.

My cats know that 7am is feeding time, whether they need it or not. If their bowls are full, I add a few pieces of fresh dry food to psyche them out, give them their morning brushing, and leave it at that.
They also get fresh water in the morning, so I am never sure if they want food, or just want fresh water.

My cats do this too. There will be food in their bowls yet they'll hang out by the food and lay there like they're waiting. I never give in. She'll have to realize she has food sometime. Otherwise she'd starve. Don't give her more food. Give her time to adjust. She should be fine.
