most religions are against it because the bible tells them it is wrong. some will say only a man and a woman can have and raise children, what about single dads who have custody of their child? are they not fit parents when the mother is not involved?

second, there are people who do not believe as you do. some would rather have a civil union. why do you feel the need to control what these people do? is it because your bible tells you to?

They accept an anthology of mostly anonymous ancient writings as a blueprint for moral behavior. Unfortunately, it's not a blueprint for moral behavior. Much that is to be found in the Bible and Qur'an are outmoded ideas, at the very least, and many were bad ideas and represented small-minded thinking when they were originally written.

One cannot determine a person's fitness to parent based solely on his or her sexual preference. Many same-sex couples are exemplary parents; some aren't. Many hetero couples make outstanding parents; some don't.

Not a Christian here... but you're right, there's something very odd about all this uproar over "it's better for the kids, think of the kids" when so many other children aren't raisied in "ideal" arrangements. Where are all the people whipping themselves into a moral outrage for the children who are raised by one parent? Where's the big stink over divorced parents raising children in separate households?

As for the civil union thing, well, if people feel comfortable doing that then more power to 'em, but it's sort of like saying "hey, the black people feel comfortable drinking out of separate water fountains so let's not get all fussy about it". It's STILL "separate but equal" when a certain group of people gets basically the same thing by a different, "inferior" name.

Oh, and just so everyone is clear, the MARRIAGE I talk about when it comes to LEGALIZING same sex marriage is... *gasp*... LEGAL marriage. I'm not talking about "marriage from God". Religious folk can keep all their religious marriage to themselves for all I care. LEGAL marriage has nothing to do with God. God needn't even be mentioned for a legal marriage to be performed by a judge and sanctioned by the state in which you live. There's sometimes a blood test, occasionally a waiting period of a few days, usually a fee, the marrying couple and their witnesses sign a paper and then the ceremony. That's it. No need to bring God into something completely secular.

just so you know the bible also states that to touch the skin of a dead pig makes one unclean(levidicas) and should be put to death. i also states that anyone working on the sabbath should be put to death, ans that planting different crops side by side is an abomination....
oh yah did i mention that the bible condones slavery??!!!
you have every right to believe that gay marriage is wrong. i believe that marriage between too red heads is wrong....but i shouldnt be aloud to control the law based on my beliefs.
legal marriage is legal....married in the church(in the eyes of god) is different. their was a time when a black man could legally marry a white woman but not in church.

Right wingers are annoying, aren't they? It's their attempt to get religious laws placed into our secular society. IMO, it's all BS. Civil unions, Pagan ceremonies, etc. should be recognized as just as legitimate as any Christian Ceremony. Besides, even a Christian can't get married (and it be recognized) without first going to the Court House. So it is NOT a religious thing in the US... it's all gov't. So they can deny the homosexuals in their church, but it will come down to them being allowed to have a union recognized by our Secular Gov't. (Christians who wish to argue this point - please refer to the Treaty of Tripoli).

I believe it's time to shut down the fanatical religious groups trying to push their ideals on our gov't and force them to abide by the friggin Constitution (Equality for ALL) that they keep spouting is a "Christian" document. Again, refer back to the Treaty of Tripoli. Then write down the 10 commandments and pinpoint exactly which ones are in our Nations Laws at this point in time. That should pretty well show you just how many "Christian" principles were actually used. Actually, they wouldn't be "Christian" principles at all... they would be Jewish ones. Christians didn't have a damn thing to do with writing the laws in the OT (you know, those one's they claim do not apply to them anymore... just apply to everyone else)

They think it's best "for the children." Our earth will not be able to supply the children they supposedly care about with abundant resources and air. The more people created, the more destruction there is to the earth.

Sexuality has always been personal; I resent a government that dictates morality.

Single parenthood created from needs, not from ideal.
who would not want a father and a mother?

You gays do what ever you please, but why expect us to accept it? Doesn't we straight people has the right to reject?
I do not see you gays being control by anything, all I see is, you gays got into a behavior, and trap your own self into it.

Even without religion, it is still contradicts to the law of nature.
I just don't see how you keep the human race going without
reproduction.

I hear ya sista! People hide behind the bible as their reason for hating gay marriage. The truth is they arent against it for religion they are most likely aginst it cause they think it is just wrong. Which is bs. Love is love the end.

If a man has fathered a baby and the mother is not involved, it is admirable for the man to step up to the plate and care for the baby. I don't think gay marriage or adoption should be legal, since it is a life style that God condemns.
