my 8 year old would like a mobile phone, iI bought a cheep one last year for when she went to stay at her dads on a week end (that she never uses) but now she would like a expensive one, its not the money its just that i really think she is too young

just buy her one that she can only call the parents' phone numbers (or whatever other specified numbers) and 911. Disney mobile has a nice plan called Family Locator which integrates GPS functionality so that you can keep track of where the phone (and therefore your kids) are.

I would not buy any person under the age of 19 a mobile phone.
Nobody under the age of 19 is responsible enough to use it properly, or to keep from losing it, breaking it, or paying for the bills that are generated by the use of the phone.

I agree that she is far too young. The only time I will be giving my kids a mobile phone is when they are old enough to be going out without adult supervision. I think they are useful then for safety. i think 8 is too young for this.

I think I would have to go with yes.....because you can get the new Disney mobile and program # that she can call out and that can call in plus with the way the world is now and I am sure she goes off to play with her friends you would have contact I mean I that is how I feel abotu ti at least

yes because she may get stuck somewhere and no way of getting home, at least you can call her and make sure she is ok, she only wants an expensive one because maybe her friends have them too, she wants to be the same as them with trendy stuff, but it is a good idea to get her one just incase she needs you or theres an emergency...if i were you i would limit the credit...8 year olds can talk for england

No. No. No. Get her one that had "mom", "Dad" and 4 or 5 other numbers that you pre-program into it if she has to have one.
Now, with that in mind...that 14-year old girl in SC (?) who was abducted was lucky to have her cell phone, I must say...she texted her Mom to tell her where her captor was keeping her.
But an 8-yr old does not need an expensive cell phone!

she wants to be older what she is,but getting her a cell with extra dollars is crazy,tell her if she wants to use one,use the one she has,add minutes to it,explain if she can use the one she has for 1 year,u will get a her one she wants,make her a deal,use it once a week,for a least 5 minutes,she will see she still has phone,and she can still fit in.if anything u can always get her a cheap tracphone or a net 10 phone, they are cheap, and would be good for a kid that age,too.

Who do 8 years know to ring? My own daughter won't have one until she is in High School - and only when she can justify it's use - mainly because my 12 yr old son has one and never uses it - why - because he has very few people to ring!
