This is not unusual behavior. While cats, like lions, are social animals that like to live in groups, it's normal for a mother cat to push her kittens away so they can be less dependent on her and fend for themselves. With domesticated cats, this is difficult when the territory is limited to the confined space of a house or appartment. You say the mama is terrorizing her kittens, but I'm willing to bet that the reverse it true. You just don't realize it or see it. Kittens are a total pain in the butt! They are naughty and tireless. All your mama cat wants is a some peace and quiet. She's done her job and now it's her turn for some "me time". She's just letting them know she's had enough. Help her out. Give her a break from these 2 "monsters". Once they give her enough space, she will seek them out for companionship in her own good time. She's just wants them to grow up a bit more first! Good luck!

The kittens are....well, no longer kittens. They've hit the 1 year mark and are now adult cats. Mama cat might be getting territorial now. I've heard territorial fights can occur once a kitten reaches maturity, regardless of how long it has lived in the home with the other cats.

I don't think your cat is bad....she's an animal. That's what they do. I don't really know enough about these situations to give you the best advice (I hope one or more of the animal trainers or owners here can do that), but don't think your cat is evil just because she's doing this.

I have 5 cats, 4 of which are related and were ferals. Maybe it is the Mother trying to let the kittens know that they are old enough to be on their own, maybe they are bothering her and she wants not part of it, though I have watched our outside ferals and the Mothers are great, they do chase them when they are older though, but now that they are all fixed and "managed" they get along fine. Are your kitties fixed? That might be the problem, not sure what else to tell you. Good luck.

My cat did the same thing to her daughter, the only thing that made them nice to each other was moving in with a hyper beagle. It is instinct for them to send the kittens on their way when they are grown.

It is normal for a mother cat to do that she is saying to them
it is time you left home you are old enough. It is not natural for
kittens to stay and live with their mothers indefinately. She is
probably jealous of them as well.
