I wouldn't even worry about it until your child shows some signs of interest. Buy him or her some cute little undies and explain to your child that he or she can wear the big boy/girl underwear when they can go potty in the big potty. My kids never wanted to use the little potty chairs, so I bought a little stool for them to climb up on in order to reach the "big potty". I don't believe these Mom's who say their kids were trained when they were two years old. The parents were trained to take their kids to the bathroom every two hours, but I really don't think the child is trained that early. All kids are different. Boys tend to train later. My son was 3 and a half and my girls were both 3, but when THEY were ready, it only took a few days and they were completely trained. Good luck and don't stress over it!!

It depends on what you define as potty training. Many people define potty training as mom taking the kid to sit on the toilet every 15 minutes around the clock. That's not potty training in my book.

In our house potty training is when a child can say "hey I have to pee" (or something along those lines) and you assist the child as necessary.

So you need to start looking for cues that the child is ready to train. Do they tell you when they have a wet diaper? Do they hide to go poop? (lots of kids hide, I have no freaking idea why) Do they want to be changed immediately. Do they have a fairly predictable schedule as to when they pee/poop?

But since you asked about age.. I say somewhere between 2 and 3 with 2 being maybe a bit early and 3 being a bit late. However, each child is different. My first son potty trained at 22 months, my second son waited until a month before he turned 3. There's no point in forcing the issue, it will only make you both frustrated in the long run.

I started potty training my daughter at 20 months and she was fully potty trained by 22 months. The huggies website has a good guide to potty training that youmight want to check out, lists the signs of readiness and whatnot. Good luck! Potty training can be a very frustrating process, especially if you start too early, so make sure your kiddo is ready!

My son will be 18 months the 29th and I have already introduced potty training to him for the past two months.Although he really doesnt understand it still.. I bought him a potty chair that plays music when he pee's in it or a bowel movement. That was basically a waste of money for me becuase he likes to follow me into the bath room and watch me use the bath room so I jus sat him on the toilet and put some water on his hand so that he would have the urge to pee.. That worked for me and also some times when I see he is grunting I take his diaper off and sit him on the toilet. Or usually every two hours I take his diaper off let him run around for a min and then put him on the toilet. He still has not told me that he needs to go. I cant wait for that! ha. But you could try what I mentioned. Hope something works for ya.. but if anything you will soon know when your child is ready when he is.. good luck

Between 2 1/2 and 3 years old. Both my kids were potty trained by the time they were 3. Good luck and be patient.

Any age, you can never teach them to early! But I would say normally around 1 year, depending on the child, some children adapt to the potty fast and understand while other children can be intimidated! Here is a fun fact for potty training that worked for EVERYONE I know!! If it's a BOY.....throw cherrio's or froot loops in the toilet and make it a"shooting game" for him...tell him to aim inside the "ring". If it is a GIRL...get her a doll, help her to help "the doll" to use the potty, reward her & the doll with praises, then your daughter will want to potty on her own and there ya go!! Good luck with the potty training!!

Well, my son just turned one and began walking a little before. I could not imagine potty training him this early. I know lots of people do and even early, but I don't think I could.

I plan on waiting until he shows the correct signs of "being ready". For example if he starts letting me know that he needs to use the bathroom and so on. Probably a little before he is two or at two.

I saw a piece on CNN on how they are trying to have them toilet trained right out of the womb. It didn't say how they were going to accomplish that. But it did show one woman training her daughter at 8 months. Just be careful! Some phycologists and such will say you toilet trained to early if the child winds up having problems in school! You could just tell them you started at 14 months too. They'll never know!

at the time they start to learn to walk. Potty training starts with them seeing you pee in the potty and listening to you talk about it.

"Big girls go potty in the toilet, some day when you decide to be a big girl you'll go potty in the toilet".

"Lets clean your diaper, icky, some day when you decide to be a big boy you'll tell mommy you have to go potty in the toilet, just like a big kid!"

"Big girls dont go potty in their underpants, they tell their mommy's they have to potty in the toilet. Some day when you decide to be a big girl, you will too!"

Thats where potty training starts. Not on the toilet. As a concept and an event they witness.
