religion & spirituality category does it just cause tension between people?
the way i see it no matter what anyone posts there is always people ready to string you up for ur beliefs, no matter what they are. i was raised a catholic but now i have no belief in god or the bible, this is a personal choice. i have friends who r devout catholics and christians and who attend church regulary, i dont ever tell them what they belive in is wrong or phony, that is their right to choose.they also respect my beliefs but if i say im a non believer here in response to a question i get put down, why cant people just respect that everyone has different ideas. live and let live, my family r belivers in god and i love and respect them and they love and respect me for my own ideas.
i will never put anyone down wheather they b catholics christians muslims or any other religion, in fact im interested in how others perseive their faith, im happy in my life as it is,i dont feel like im missing anything

This could be a forum where a lot of understanding and new found knowledge is acquired. UNFORTUNATELY many many people let their ego get in the way even when discussing a subject like spiritual beliefs. Ironic isn't it?

if you do believe in God - good for you. if you live your life to be respectful of others and to maintain a standard where you never belittle, offend and at all times respect others around you - well good for you.
No-one needs to have a God to pray to every day. The doer who goes out with a smile, courtesay and respect for others, no matter who or what they are and live their life to a high moral standard lives their life with the consideration towards others. That person I will take my hat off to and shake their hand. They live their life towards their own truth and in so doing harm no-one. My only wish is that there was more folk like you around in this world.
Many many folk attend church, pray to God and when the church door closes never think of Him within their lives - 'til next Sunday.
That too is their choice and there is not a person alive that has the right to stand up and be judgemental.
For me I do now hold that there is a God but I cannot say that I think of Him every day but yes I can say most of the days of the week I may ask Him to help with the peace of this world. Like you I try to be kind helpful and considerate towards others but would never dream of asking nor discussing anothers faith or lack of it.
We all can live next door to each other and our faith is our own - this should make no difference to my perception of you as a neighbour and friend. What you are on the outside and the way you treat others is far more important.

If I have offended anyone with anything I have said I deeply apologize. I try not to put a religion down, I do answer questions about different religions in only saying what that religious belief is.
I admit that there were a couple of episodes where I let my angry get the better of me and I said a sarcastic remark, which I personally wrote them in a email and apologized. I never want to hurt anyone, I only want to try to answer questions as truthfully as I can. Because I never would want to be accused by God of leading someone astray.
That is why on some of these questions I refuse to answer because I don't want to say anything in anger again. I don't like the way God deals with me when I say something in anger or in jest.

Definitely yes, with or without tension. You are right about people who want to make you think what they think and there are variety of reasons for that, but the main one (I believe) is that they can't see things from different perspective. I am a believer and I think it's the best thing that can happen to anyone and we-humans are made to live in relationship with God but timing is not the same for all of us, and some people decide never to make commitment to God. That's the freedom we are entitled to, but there are believers who think it's their duty to remind you over and over again about important things. It can be very annoying (I remember time when I was in your shoes), but maybe it's God's call for you, no matter how strange it sounds. If you get understanding in everyday life and feel uncomfortable only here, don't worry, your family and friends are far more important and you can always choose not to read answers in this section.

Willow, I'm glad you said that. Your a credit to your friends and family. Truth is that there are too many idiots on here that get a kick out of putting people down.
If your wanting to learn about how others live their lives I'd advise you to stay away from yahoo answers! This place is about self glorification.

Maybe you do get strung up for your beliefs, but, if one person changes their beliefs, then something's worked. There's little point in a subject like this in everybody agreeing.
Even being rude - in a calculating manner - can get some people to think. By that however, I don't mean gratuitously rude or just foul mouthed. when somebody is rude about something in your religion, yoou think far harder about a suitably crushing reply. That, in its turn, makes you think about things yourself.
