Obviously, it's bad to breathe gas and it's smell should automatically make you back off... Have these people just breathed in too deeply too many times at the gas station, etc... and gotten addicted? Poison shouldn't be an attractive smell! Also, does this mean their sense of smell is actually damaged or that some wires are crossed somewhere?

You can't compare it to different tastes in food, etc... as one of the foods won't be a poison!

Actually, from a chemistry standpiont, gasoline is made up of aromatic hydrocarbons which call it evolution or whatever you want... our brain has chosen to consider aromatic hydrocarbons to be, in general, good smelling. Thereby it stands to reason that many people would think gasoline smells good.

i, being one of those people say that this is not a problem. if you breathe in too much gasoline, then i agree that you would suffer some effects that you explained. i love the smell of gas, but have never taken it as far as you mentioned. i do agree that people who jaywalk may have become addicted, but for the most part people just like the smell and don't have any problem with addiction or their senses.

Well people often like different smells. Just like people have different taste buds. 2 people could like pizza, 1 person might not. I find the smell of gasoline a pleasent smell, although it does make me dizzy and kind of sick. So really, it's just a life preferance, liking the smell of gasoline or being a vegeatarian or not liking some feels of things. *Shivers* Ugh cotton...

Because we as human beings tend to associate good feelings and strong memories with smells, some people associate the smell of gasoline with a positive moment in their lives.

Yeah - I had a friend who liked it. I never did understand that because it makes me totally nauseated. I don't think it's a malfunction of any sort... some people just like different things. Their brains and bodies interpret different input in different ways. In the same way some people love liver and onions (and love the smell) and the taste and smell make me want to puke.

I like the smell of the first puff off of a Marlboro cigarette and I know that its poisonous. Maybe they like the smell because it reminds them of a fast car, but gasoline fumes can cause cancer, so they should avoid it at the very least.

You can't control what scents attract you. Some people LOVE the smell of skunks! Can you imagine? I, myself enjoy the scent of gasoline...I think it's weird...I don't go around smelliing it, but when I'm filling up, it doesn't bother me. I also love the smell of sulfur when you light a wooden match. Bad combination, I know! LOL

The reason most of us like the smell of gasoline is NASCAR RACING. Nothing like the smell of gasoline and hot rubber!

It's strange, isn't it? I actually liked the smell of gas and exhaust fumes when I was a child. (I don't like either one now) Maybe that would explain why I'm so forgetful! :)
