I posted a question in Yahoo! Answers about clarifying the Genealogy category, in hopes that it would alert the Answers Team. I have sent 2 feedback notes with no response.
If you have a suggestion for the Genealogy category name, feel free to post it here.
And if anyone knows how I can send our input to the Answers Team, please contact me. They need to hear us out.
Thanks!

I agree with you!!!!!!!!!! Get rid of the word genealogy - use Family Tree. At least it would get rid of all the sex questions. I've been doing genealogy for over 25 years and it would have been nice to help out people searching for their roots. But, I'm getting sick of reading all the unrelated questions posted in the genealogy section.

Hey Dottie,

It is obvious to us that answer questions here that people asking are just dropping in without regard to the Genealogy topic. If you do get the ear of the Answers team, you might suggest that Genealogy be placed at the end of the list, so people don't pick the first area of the set of lists.

As far as changing the name of the category - Genealogy is what it should be, but if we made it 'Discovery your Dead Past', I think we would have an equal amount of people that do not know about Genealogy.

I am not a Professional Genealogist, but have been doing this for about 10 years now. Took classes, etc. Some of the questions put in this category are, well, not applicable. I try to be nice, and give advice, have helped many people, and I guess, made some cry - finding their Fathers passed away. This is serious business in this category. So, what to do - I don't know for sure. Maybe an abuse category for mis-categorized questions. But then who is the judge and jury?

A person asked about 3 genetic defects, I think today, in Genealogy. That is questionable. It is not really genealogy, but it is possible through Genealogy research to link illnesses of a persons ancestors to modern day knowledge. So, does it or not apply? It would be nice to eliminate the totally ill placed questions. Good luck. Let me know if I can provide more information.

PS - I just reported a question that does not apply as abuse, in the OTHER category, and explained why in the comments. Lets see if it stays in Genealogy. I will check back.

Ho Ho Ho.

The YA team gets about a million complaints and suggestions a week. They are puny King Cautes trying to hold back the tide of ignorance.

The other categories have wildly unsuitable posts too - anywhere from 10% to 50%. Unless YA got a government grant in the gazillions, to personally visit all the 14-year old morons who know how to turn on a computer and teach them what the word "Category" means, they do not have a chance.

All they can do is delete the worst of the posts. That alone must keep ten of them working full time.

I am new so I cannot answer your question but it is a good one that needs to be addessed. I have two guestion riding towards the end but after the are posted I never see my questions again unless I am notfied of an answer. If that is what you are asking about or this seems to tie in with your question.
