The difference is that a cold goes away and HIV doesnt. I think AIDS will have a cure in the future.

Common cold cures by itself, but Aids does not. Some Iranian professionals claim that they have found a cure for Aids. it is a herbal medicine as they say.

We have not found a way to cure any virus so far. We have developed products to prevent it (vaccines) and help us overcome it (Chicken Pox) but not "cure" it. Our body usually is stronger than the virus so the virus runs it course and goes away in time. The body cannot overcome HIV so it does not go away in time but we have developed drugs that help us live in spite of it.

Hope this helps.
