Religion, could turn out, in the final analysis to be one big fantasy. Yet, it is a fantasy that gives people a moral framework to live by. Many people otherwise who would be lawless and unscrupulous in their dealings with others. It’s a fantasy that infuses an otherwise banal and meaningless existence with hope and vitality. It’s a fantasy that gives a confusing world a framework that brings clarity to problems.
In short, if religion turns out to be fantasy, that does not necessarily trivialize religion, or render it entirely useless. Though many ills have their root cause in religion, much of the good that you see in society is engendered by spiritual beliefs.

I'd like to say that religion is just one big joke, but whereas jokes are usually funny, religion is just plain dangerous.
