Yes, cats are not as loyal or emotionally attached as other pets like dogs for example. Cats tend to adapt to their new environments once they are receiving the necessary food and care.

I did this when I was in college and took my cat w/ me, leaving my sister's cat at home. Both cats freaked out. My sister's cat stopped using the litter box to poop in and my cat would never come out, she also started peeing everywhere. After a month I ended up taking her back home, then they were fine again. They always lay on the chairs together with one right beside the other. Some might be okay, but mine freaked out.

cats are sometimes very independent. And they really do not care if they are with litter mates. It really depends on the cats.
Only you will know if these 2 cats "need" each other.
If something happens to me..I have it that my cats can be split up to people I know. I do not expect my friends to take care of all 4 of my cats.

It depends on the cats in question. My husband and I wouldn't give away either of our young cats, unless they go together: The male was blind longer than most kittens are, and he depended on his sister to lead him around. They are still very attached.
If on the other hand they seem to ignore eachother, then there is no reason why you can't split them up.

If you have to "split the cats up" then I can assume that they have to be rehomed because of some personal adjustment in your life.
Just having to adapt to a new living situation is very stressful for cats and to remove them from a lifelong companion of their own species will just be adding stress on top of stress. This can lead to depression, eating problems or even physical illness and I would strongly recommend that you not do it.

It is ok. i wouldn't do it only if it was totally necessary. Cats do get emotionally attached to each other. Especially as they grown up together, do they still sleep beside each other? It's a hard decision, good luck with making it

well most of the time it depends on the cats themselves. if one or both of them are really friendly, try to find a home for them that the owners already have a cat so they can be friends. but otherwise, the cats could suffer emotional damage, they might become depressed, and they might not want to play with any one.

My wife had two Siamese cat brothers for 15 years. When one was accidentally killed, the other got really sick and died within three months.

It will be okay, you'll have some retards tell you it's wrong but don't worry. I have two cats who don't even seem to know each other exist.

They are probably used to having the other one there if they are real playful with each other yes if they basically ignore each other then there shouldn't be much problem. you could try it by separating them for a day and see how they act.
