Cannot be a cola or other dark soft drink. It must be something light, like 7 up or Sprite. I used to like the old Fresca as a mixer but cannot find that any moreI would suggest trying the diet versions of these as it does not kill the taste.

Good vodka is best drunk neat and very cold (keep in freezer).
If you must mix it (in other words, are not native Russian or want to be standing after 4 drinks...), then vodka is best mixed with some kind of juice. Most people know of Orange Juice (Screwdriver), but I cannot stand OJ after about 10 in the am.

Instead I would either suggest Cranberry Juice or Pineapple if you prefer something sweeter (again, try for the low sugar versions). Another that we have over here is Mango Juice but you must cut it with water first as too thick as is.

There is no doubt that 7-Up with a splash of lime is the best with vodka. Vodka is a tough booze to mix with soft drinks and there are only a few that taste good. I would go with the 7-Up!

My personal favorites with vodka, and trust me I drink lots of vodka are Pineapple crush or Mountain Dew. Of course mixing it with Sprite is like getting a vodka Collins with bubbles

Vodka with soft drinks? Why? Go with Rum and soda. Or step away from all that and have something made with sour. From a whiskey sour, or amaretto sour, all the way up to a long island iced tea......

the soft drink i preferred was Diet Pepsi Vanilla with a vanilla vodka. i dont think they make pepsi vanilla anymore though, so i drink vodka martinis now. anything berry.
