My opinion is that BASIC nutrition( IE: meals) should never be contingent on any behavior. PERIOD.
Deserts and snacks on the other hand can be used as a reward. Or a punishment(No desert until your room is clean, chores are done etc...)

It is hard to use the words "ever" and "never" since most issues have little gray areas. Generally speaking, I don't think food should be used very often as a reward. I don't believe in ever with-holding food as a punishment, that is abuse. As a parent, I have used food on occasion for rewards. For example, a bowl of M & M's was key in the sucess of potty training my son.

I don't think so. Food is a "right;" it's sustenance to keep you alive, not a reward. If you rely on food as reward or punishment, it will be tied to emotions and lead to overeating and obesity. Look at all the fat kids in the grocery stores whose parents say, "You were so good! PIck out a candy bar!"

you should never give a child food as a reward and certainly not deprive it as a punishment a child is a human being and this is such a cruel resort that I wouldnt even opt to do to a dog.
