Yes I have seen red yolks and green ones. In this case I think your egg was well fertilized. At Purina Farms in Missouri - they have red and green chickens - only because of the dye in the feed. In some countries - people will only eat a red or green yolked egg. They say yellow is not natural. Purina explained that the dye they use does not harm the chicken or the egg - if they go back to normal feed, the yolks also go back to yellow in color. Sorry to be so long winded.

Did you know that you can actually buy food which will give your yolks the colour that you want. You get a little colour chart and can choose between several shades of yellow or orange, for that 'authentic' farm fresh look

although your egg was most likely to just have had blood spots in it

It has to do with the chicken feed they gave the hen. Now with all the vitamins and omega 3's and stuff they put in chicken feed you get darker yolks. A free-range hen gives darker yolks too. It won't hurt you a particle.

Genetic disorder.

The only other egg I have constantly seen in orange/red was salted duck egg.

Try eating centuries egg. A type of preserved egg the Chinese used to eat. You will remember it for life if you have not tried them before,........... I like them, especially with porridge.

Happy Trying.

yes alot of times you will get little blood spots on the eggs you unfortunally got a all blood spots sounds like you are using free range eggs or their is a rooster with the hens.

As far as I tell it was just a ruptured blood vessel that had formed. They form when a blood vessel in the oviduct of the hen ruptures during the egg formation process. Only about 1% of all eggs contain blood spots and most are removed during the egg grading process. Your egg seems to be part of the 1% that was not removed...YUCK!

I had an egg with an eyeball and some veins in it once, it was collected fresh from the farm I think the hen must have just sat on it too long.
