Given what children are up against today, no - we (adults) are doing it TO them by taking away any concept of phys ed in the schools and going with the very cheapest school lunches which are enevitably nothing but starch and fat. Doesn't help either that school districts are forced to cut deals with Coke and Pepsi to allow their machines in the schools in order to take a cut of the revenues because we don't fund education any more.

It can be, but that doesn't mean it always is. yes, sometimes you have people who have been at normal weight.. and just start eating too much for no obvious reasons.. other times it may be mental health related, maybe they are depressed or have low self esteem and they turn to food to cope (eating releases chemicals that make people feel better, it's called satiety or something like that) it could also be that they learned improper eating habits at a young age and have never broken threw that cycle. there is some genetic link for some people.. but that just means they store energy in the form of fat more easily than others.. the simple fact is if you burn more energy than you consume you will lose weight.. which brings us to the idea that, though not always self inflicted, obesity is self maintained.. at least in adults... for children the parents become a factor as well.

Over-eating and eating Disorders do tend to come from within.
From Personal Trauma or Upset!
I admit that sometimes it's easier to Eat and Do Nothing!!, but on the whole self respect and discipline mean that we never venture over the line into spiraling Obesity!

in some cases yes it is - BUT there is often an underlying cause(self esteem issues for 1) as to why the person gets that way.
other times it is a physiological reason & then there is side effects from medications.
some people with different Thyroid conditions tend to carry a lot of excess weight. Also when my niece was going through chemotherapy she had quite a rounded body but skinny limbs.

Yes in most cases due to dietary indiscipline. There are exceptions, though, such as when one suffers from abnormal growth hormones or experiences some side effects of certain medications.

I believe so. I don't buy the whole "it's in the genes" thing. There were no fat people in Auschwitz... it's all a matter of calories taken in/calories expended. The obese may not care or may not be educated enough in health matters to know what's making them fat.

Often it is due to glandular problems or metabolism issues or other diseases..I am real thin but none of us should judge others by our appearances.

Not always, sometimes it is due to illness or it's just in the genes.
