Obviously, you need to research your topic- IE: cancer. Read the information you gather, then make notes about what you have read. Compile ( organize the information) into a paper, and VOILA!! You have a research paper!!
By the way- Good luck- you should find lots of information about your topic of cancer. :)

You will have to narrow your topic down. If your subject is cancer, for example, you might narrow it down to treatment options for cancer or research a particular type of cancer. Then organize it into sections (what causes this type of cancer, how it affects the body, how it is treated) and write about it!!
