I am ashamed to admit that I overdrew my account by $1000 dollars three years ago. I was young and dumb and now want to pay it off. If I pay it, will I be able to get a checking account again right away?

Maybe, depends on the bank...you may have to have a secured account for a while.

Doubtful. I went through that once & banks told me I had to wait a number years. I couldn't even get a savings acct. w/out a co-signer. Tried at numerous banks & my balance I paid off was only around $200.

That was *years & years* ago & I still don't have an account. I refuse to deal w/ banks now. Hate 'em. ;-)

Some banks will offer a deal, so that you pay it off. but you may have stipulations on your account. Like you can only withdrawl a certain amount and you can't do deposits at the machine without a hold.

god, i hope they weren't charging you any fees or anything. i would find another bank if you want to open another account. i don't think your current one is gonna be a big fan of giving you another checking account.
