Hello guys,

about 8 years ago..I suddenly realized that I had lost my sense of smell... I can't remember how I lost my sense of smell though (whether it was instant or gradual). My taste was fine now I can't smell perfume, and don't smell smoke and worrie whether or not I have bad breath or body odor.I alwasys have to ask my brother to smell my clothes to see if they needed washing because I can't tell. I went to an ear, nose, throat doctor and gave me alot of medicines and a nose spray to try, called nasacort, twice a day, which makes no difference at all. although, I'm not gonna do it, now my doctor asked me to try a surgery, and he also told me that there is no a guarantee for it. I dont think now I can do anything about it.
I was just wondering if anyone of you have this experience, or know some one who has/had. or if you guys know someone who recover from it. Any suggestions on doing any more testing, etc.? It gets really frustrating.

First thing you have to know the cause of your condition. Have you done any investigation to know it. 8 years seemed to be quite long and I can say that most probably it is not just temporary. It may be caused by death of olfactory receptor neurons in the nose, or by brain injury in which there is damage to the olfactory nerve or damage to brain areas that process smell or it maybe be an early sign of degenerative brain diseases such as Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease.
Know first what it is due to exactly to figure it out definitely. Now getting a treatment is quite frustrating really as it is almost comparable to those who had lost sight or hearing.
