There is a lot to learn, the needs of living in society are complex. Personally, 6 1/2 hours would only be long enough if you had less vacation time. 180 school days is not enough. The summer vacation thing was set up for an agricultural society so kids could work on the farm, not so they could hang out and do nothing.
Face it, your first 4-6 weeks of school are spent in review, the last 4 weeks are getting ready for exams. That is not enough time spent learning new material.
Most kids get out of high school and the only jobs they are really qualified for include donuts and coffee. And besides that, they still don't know how to balance a check book and based on the questions here, they have no idea about the basic facts of life-what causes pregnancy, how to lose weight or how to treat a simple cold. They certainly can't spell. Many of them no longer do their own homework, they just post it here and hope other people will do it. That does not help the learning process.
And you want to know why time in school is so long? What if the doctor who does surgery on you went to school less, would that give you more confidence in your doctor.
Accept it, go to school and be glad you have an opportunity to learn.

Apparently it's not long enough if you still haven't figured out how to spell "does".
Quitcher b!tching. Life in the real world is a LOT longer than school. And if you think 6 1/2 hours a day is too long to spend at school, have fun with your future job that will demand anywhere from 40 to 60 hours a week.
One day all too soon, you'll be responsible for paying bills and trying like hell to stay out of debt, let alone save to be able to retire at a reasonable age. Right now, your only obligation is to read some chapters and answer some questions. Do us all a favor and spend less time on Yahoo Answers and more trying to solve some global problem.

People do not need to be cooped up in a building for 6 1/2 hours to learn anything, sadly though, the schools need that amount of time for several reasons: time to get to and from class, taking attendance, quieting the restless, reviewing materials from the previous day, and finally an opportunity to learn for a few minutes. That is the only reason so much time is needed for school.
The school system today run the same as in the industrilized age and really, there is no need for it. Lengthen the year and shorten the hours, afternoons should be spent in freedom for the younger years; freedom to seek and explore and learn and be curious. People have 40-50 years to be chained to a long work day, the younger years should be spent joyfully. Fortunately, we home educate and that is exactly how are afternoons are spent because it only takes 3-3 1/2 hours to go through our lessons.

School is a privilege!
Many kids in third world countries are dying to get an education and you are complaining about a measly six and a half hours. What would you really be doing with those extra free six hours. Sitting on your couch watching t.v. or doing drugs. Please go to school and learn how to spell properly!
School is were you gain knowledge, friendship, and an understanding of what the real world will give to you!
Be smart stay in school!

There are many schools that do not have 6 1/2 hour days.
In some areas of the North West, students use computers and study from home.
Many students are home schooled and others, such as entertainers only study a few hours a day with the help of tutors who teach them on the job.
The number of hours committed to study per day is relative to your location.
However, there is another consideration too. If the hours were shortened, it would cause one hugh babysitting problem for millions of parents who have to work (smile).

As long as you can't spell "does", don't capitalize the first-person pronoun, can't distinguish the adverb "too" from the preposition "to", and write run-on sentences, you need to stay in school. Looks like six and a half hours isn't enough in your case.

If you're whining about six and a half hours of school, you're going to really hate the real world.
