Recently large demonstrations have taken place across the country protesting the fact that Congress is finally addressing the issue of illegal immigration. Certain people are angry that the US might protect its own borders, might make it harder to sneak into this country and, once here, to stay indefinitely. Let me see if I correctly understand the thinking behind these protests.
Let's say, I break into your house. Let's say, that when you discover me in your house, you insist that I leave. But I say, "I've made all the beds and washed the dishes and did the laundry and swept the floors; I've done all the things you don't like to do. I'm hard-working and honest (except for when I broke into your house).
According to the protesters, not only must you let me stay, you must add me to your family's insurance plan, educate my kids, and provide other benefits to me and to my family (my husband will do your yard work because he too is hard-working and honest, except for that breaking in part). If you try to call the police or force me out, I will call my friends who will picket your house carrying signs that proclaim my right to be there.
It's only fair, after all, because you have a nicer house than I do, and I'm just trying to better myself. I'm hard working and honest, um, except for, well, you know.
And what a deal it is for me!! I live in your house, contributing only a fraction of the cost of my keep, and there is nothing you can do about it without being accused of selfishness, prejudice, and being an anti-housebreaker. Oh yeah, and I want you to learn my language so you can communicate with me.
Why can't people see how ridiculous this is?! Only in America

Good question... Yeah, sure they're here to "better themselves"... which ought to include honesty... especially, well, you know. ;)
My question is- They're illegal immigrants... key word there is "illegal"... how illegal? Apparently, changing the laws to make it a felony is too harsh for some.... so what was it before? A misdemeanor? What was the punishment- deportation? What would the "new" punishment be- incarceration?... great!! They come here illegally, try to get jobs etc, and we put them in jail... and they are still leaching off our economy....
I say go ahead and put up the wall. Incarcerate all the adult illegals INS finds, play Rush Limbauh (any conservative talk radio will do) all day every day for them, allow some form of in-prison punishment for not speaking English, require US civics classes, English classes, etc. Do not allow any mail out (sick of them sending money to... wherever) Release them when they earn a GED... AND US citizenship...
And for the kiddies- mainstream them into the (English-speaking) public school system as fast as possible!!!
'Course, this is for those who cannot PROVE they need amnesty. Amnesty should be reserved for those who can prove they'll be killed as soon as they touch soil "back home." These people should be extended a little (and I do mean a very little) bit more hospitality... Require enrolment in those same courses (US civics, English, GED), but allow employment, home-buying, etc.
Oh, yeah, and declare English the official language- save some of those tax-payers' dollars by printing government documents and forms only in English... anything more would be unnecessary.
It's just a thought....

The reason people are protesting has almost nothing to do with this manufactured problem. The Wars in Afghanistan, Iraq, the War on Terror, the rebuilding of New Orleans , the mounting debt meant that the current administration was/is in very serious trouble with the mid-term elections so near. So, like any good politician, when what you are doing is so wrong, come up with something, such as illegal immigration, and hopefully the "new" problem with shift the focus of the voters. Do you think that this is a new phenomena? People have been doing this for years. Mighty convenient if you ask me. Your scenario took alot of thought, is kinda cute and is the same kind of reasoning the Bush advisers exploit. The real issues for voters is our national debt, healthcare, repairing the damage from last years storms, global warming. Don't let Bush lead you into another never ending battle where no one wins. When American citizens are starving, homeless, uneducated, how on earth can we rationalize spending millions and millions building a stupid fence. Who do you think will get the contract to build it? Unemployed Americans or Bush cronies? We love to set ourselves up as an example for the rest of the world to emulate. What example is a bigger fence with armed guards between neighbours showing, other than paranoia and ignorance. "Give us your tired, your poor, your weak", unless you are Mexican or Muslim. Only in America.....

Well look at who is sponsoring these protests, like Miller Brewing Co. they would lose cheap labor, and by the way Miller is not an American Co. anymore. (South African).
To every issue there are two sides, you can follow the money and find who are the ones that will profit from holding up, and corrupting, the political process.

Another issue that sperates our country. really the idea of immigration is a front to push a racist agenda. Conservatives are against races outside of their own. PThey say they are ok if immigrants come here legally, but truthfully, people are rascist and don't like the idea of Mexicans or Chinease coming into this country. Are we worried about Canadians, Russians, English or Germans sneaking into the county? NO, because they're white.

No. Your example is flawed. Comparing the nation's borders to your own little house is ridiculous. I'm wondering if you're such a crusader on other issues such as poverty, health care, AIDS, global warming and the other REALLY BIG problems that's affecting us. Seems you're just a regular old racist.
Even if these people went through the proper channels, you'd still be crying about there being too many of "them" stealing jobs away from the white man. After all, that is what you really care about, isn't it? You don't give a damn about me, now do you?
Stop acting as if you really give a rat's behind about what happens to any American other than yourself. You are self-absorbed and arrogant to think that this country belongs to you, solely. This land belongs to no one and everyone. The true owners of this country were ripped of it and you and me are products of the very "immigrants" you so despise.
Instead of focusing your time on illegal immigrants, maybe you should also focus on American pedophiles, corporate greed, social security and health care. Seems those are more pressing issues than Mexicans sneaking across the border, working in hard labor, to make money to send back to their families. I doubt you have a illegal Mexican tax on your paycheck, so shut your trap. I'd be more concerned about FICA.

It is ridiculous. People do see it. Those who look out for the illegals have an agenda. They somehow see a benefit to having illegals stay here. Democrats look at potential voters. Republicans look at cheap labor. Those benefiting from illegals are lobbying behind the scenes to keep their benefits intact.

I agree with you 125%, Now correct me if i am wrong, but if someone breaks into your home, legally your are allowed to SHOOT them in self defense.
So, why can't we do that at the border ? I will donate ammo.
The thing is the majority of American's do see this, like myself, i have written my congressman, senators..I even email the President...... president@whitehouse.gov ....
....Americans see it, but cannot do anything LEGAL about it & our elected officials are all bought and paid for by corporate America's need for cheap labor.
People their is only one thing we can do to stop this madness & that is create our own form of madness, yes it is called protecting our way of life, and how do we do that...by FORCE, yes Violence..its the only way.
