Please note this is a genuine question, not written to be offensive...

Like some religions seem to prohibit things like make up on the ladies... watching tv...

Which of you actually do follow by the book... no matter which book it is you are reading from...

And do you think if someone does not practice there religion by the book, then they are actually not religious at all, and should stop being hypocritcal of other faiths etc?

Ie George Bushes rants seem to border the inflammatory... and some religious leaders also seem to disrespect peoples free opinions!

All religions teach respect... So really where has the respect gone?

Peace!

i think everybody is in agreement that Jehovah's witnesses are the ones who follow the bible the closest. however, admitting that is too much of a humiliation for many so they persecute them instead thinking this will stop them preaching and serving Jehovah. little do they know that they are fulfilling bible prophecy (matthew 24:9)

The so-called "books" (Bible, Koran, Bahagvagita...) all contain certain truisms, principles, common sense, pschological understanding and morality that have been accumulated by men (usually) over time. These are old texts, written in specific social and historical contexts and have gone through many interpretations. In some cases the original meaning has been long lost. The great mistake many conservative religious folk make is to take these books literally and as the rule of law. These books, written by men and not God, are guides at best. Respect is one of those basic principles of humanity we all know is a virtue. You don't have follow a religion to understand and practice respect. Respect for each others values and way of life requires some intelligence and is borne out of education, awareness and the ability to empathize. In think the lack of respect among nations and citizens is mostly attributable to one of or a combination of ignorance, fear and ego. Practicing religion by the book will never solve these problems. In fact, when you look at the literal interpretations of the Koran and the Bible we find sources of conflict. Both books condone killing in the name of God. People are killing one another based upon belief. This is madness. Our differences should be solved through the laws, morality and principles of humanity we all know as natural truth. They do not require interference from the business of religion, its reliance on mythology and belief in supernatural phenomenon.

We aren't meant to follow the entire book literally. Some of the Bible is symbolic, some of it's literal and some of it's written to the reader specifically. The Bible says to live in the world but do not be of the world. As such, i doubt God cares that we watch tv with nudity in it or that we litter, ect ect.

i could be curious to renowned what areas of the Bible condone that form of habit. The Bible I examine useful does not. i've got self belief, as a Christian, that all of us is to blame and not the Bible, God, or His Son. The term "Christian" is used so loosely in the international immediately. Their are many distinctive denominations of Christianity and a few, regrettably, pontificate fake doctrine.

If you're going to have beliefs then they really should be supported with scripture. To blindly believe in something without evidence is foolishness. Especially if you endeavour to live your life by that same belief. It can't motivate your life properly bacause it hasn't been proved to you.
Check all your beliefs with scripture & give yourself foundation for your beliefs & then you can practice your religion "by the book."

If you find that scripture contradicts what you were raised to believe - then be humble enough to change that belief.

I don't have a religion, or a book, and I feel that I'm very respectful. It hasn't got anything to do with religion, it's good manners.

The Word of God is never failing--all we can do is the best we can do--The Lord knows our hearts and intentions. When you love him-you want to live your life to please him and only him!! It's not about rules--it's about a relationship!! I live each day for him and want to be closer to him so when I have a question-yes! I go to the Word---when all else fails--read the instructions!!!!!!!

By the book? I'm not sure I understand what you mean.

I believe every Word of God is true and faithful, and the Bible is composed entirely of the Word of God, and is therefore true and faithful.
