There are many differences in the number of stay in hospital after giving birth which is usually part of hospital policy. The best recommended length of stay however is not less than 48 hours for uncomplicated deliveries and at least 96 hours for cesarean section.
In normal deliveries, the 48 hours-recommended length of stay is an ample time to observe for any possible complication that may arise such as bleeding of the mother, and any problem that may arise on the baby. Complicated cases will take a bit longer,3-5 days or so depending on the situation of the mother per doctor's evaluation. Though there are countries that allow to discharge less time than this as long as the mother and the baby feel and look alright.
In cesarean deliveries takes a bit longer where most hospital setting would let you to stay until 5 days to give time to monitor your condition and give adequate period to recover from surgery and anesthesia thus avoiding possible complications.
Those are the ideal and advisable length of stay in the hospital though there are so many cases who just don't feel comfortable in staying in the hospital and some may insist of going home soon for some reasons.
In my case, I can say I am the most stubborn one who refused staying in the hospital longer. I discharged against medical advice soon after delivery (4 children). First child I had cesarean and insisted to go home after 12 hours. For the 2nd and 3rd child (both normal), I could not stay for 24 hours, and for my 4th child (cesarean again) I discharged against medical advise after 24 hours. You see, I felt I was alright thus I got the courage of going. Anyway, I am a nurse and my husband is a doctor, so I had no any sort of fear leaving the hospital. I did fine and very well with my baby recovering at home.
Aside from the hospital rules, you are the best one who can feel your situation and male the option in length of your stay. Anyway, as an advise; stay according to the hospital rules, they made such rules because they are certain it is for the mother and the baby's good, safety and benefit. " Infact, they made such recommendations on the length of stay based on the results of some research studies. Never take the risks, as I did. Follow what I say, not what I do."

This all depends on your hospital's policy and how your birth went. If it was a normal run of the mill vaginal birth with no complications you can stay anywhere from a few hours afterward, to 3 days afterward. Some hospitals now have a revolving door in their maternity ward I swear. At the hospital here you have 3 days that you can stay if you want. By the second day, I'm ready to go home.
If you have a c-section this is again regulated by hospital policy, but generally it's 3 or more days. They want to make sure that you're beginning to heal correctly, and that you're not doing anything other than feeding your baby and going to the bathroom, so you don't pull out your sutures and over exert yourself.
A good way to find out is to call the hospital and talk to someone in the maternity ward. Or if you don't feel comfortable doing that, I'm sure your regular doctor should know if they deliver at that hospital. Good luck and I hope that helped. =)

The answer to that question, in today's world, generally lies with your health insurance agency and the policy of the hospital where the birth is to take place. So, if there are no potential complications, the standard time frame is 1-3 days, with three days being considered an "extended" stay. Therefore, you need to check you health insurance policy and the hospital policy in this matter.

Well i stayed 3 nights after a fairly normal birth, if its a c section its usually 5 days to 7, but a friend of mine had her baby in the morning and was out that same day it was her second child though... it will probably depend on the kind of birth you have and if it went smoothly etc.

Was meant to have a home birth but when my waters broke they weren't clear and i had a sweet midwife so i listened and went to hospital for the delivery.
They made me stay for 6 hours because my daughter's body temperature was only 36.4. They made a big deal of it and have shown their ignorance since i have found out my own body temperature is only 36.4. Never understood how they expected her to be any warmer than the environment she came from.
I didn't want my new born to spend the first few days of her life in some sterile environment that is riddled with superbugs if i could help it. Not to mention their crappy food. Nutritious grub on the NHS? Don't make me laugh!

everyone is different so don't go with any expectations. i did and was bitterly disappointed.
i was started off on the thursday, gave birth on the friday evening (after 26 mins of labour when it finally started) then had to stay in until the following wednesday because my daughter was small and lost some weight.
my story isn't typical and the majority can leave in good time but just play it by ear. hope to be home but don't freak out if you're not, just enjoy sticking baby in the nursery and having some freetime cos you aren't going to have any for the next 18 years!
my sis, incidently, had two c's and both times she was out within 48 hours.

My daughter was born on a Friday night and I left the hospital Tuesday morning. So 3 days, the doctor said I could have left sooner like Monday but I really wanted the extra day to sleep a little more and relax.

if its a normal birth then it should be 1 to 2 days depending on how you gave birth. But normally 1 to 2 days at most 1 day.

For a vaginal birth you stay 2 days on average (depending on what time you give birth, later in the day would be 2 nights, in the morning would only be 1 night). For a C-Section you stay 5 days.

I had a c-section and was really anemic, so I stayed in the hospital for 4 or 5 days, I think. I can't believe this, but I don't remember.
