Since you do the household chores, you should have the right to refuse to get another dog. Tell her that it would be unfair to the dog, especially if you have a baby. It sounds like you 2 could use some marriage counseling. It doesn't appear that she is doing her fair share and that will get worse if you have a child. There are alot of problems that need to be ironed out. I would stay firm on the no dog issue. Ask her for a second choice and be prepared for anger, crying, pouting and/or the silent treatment. You have spoiled your wife.

You are very considerate to think of the dogs because you two work a lot. I'm sure you love your wife but I must say I think it's pretty selfish of her not to consider that fact that you guys are gone a lot and that these dogs are left alone. Dogs do not like to be without their people for very long. They are pack animals and they should consider you their alpha. So when their alpha (you) is gone most of the day, it really distresses them. Tell your wife to take a chill pill. Hopefully once you all have a child, she'll think twice about taking on a 3rd dog. Good luck to you all and please take care of those precious dogs. They count on you for everything.

You must really love you wife to put up with that.
I wouldn't want kids with her. If you do all the cleaning and stuff what do you think Kids are going to be like. 110 times worse.
Do not get another dog or any animal if it stresses you this much. Stick to your guns and say no!

i agree w/ you even tho i have 5 dogs myself... if you can't afford it don't get it . also, not saying this is how a new baby would effect you, but i've seen it several times, when a baby arrives the bond kinda breaks w/ a dog and they are less wanted rather it be for dog hair on the babies stuff, peeing on the babies stuff, chewing on the babies toys, growling and the baby and so on. see if your wife would settle for taking the dogs you already have to petsmart for a shopping spree or something.

If you can't afford a third dog, how are you going to afford a baby?
Tell her that, if she wants a third dog, she must take some of the housework off of your plate first. That way you'll have time to take care of the third dog. If she stops doing the extra work, find a new home for the third dog.
She sounds like a very selfish person.

If you have any more than 2 dogs, you have a pack. The stronger-willed dogs will pick on the weaker dog. It will break your heart to see your dogs beating each other up. Its just in their nature.

I have 4 dogs, 2 kids, and I work full time. My dogs and kids are all my priority. I can't imagine my husband ever saying no to me. He works in construction and is laid off 6 months of the year. So he tends to the dogs those months, because of his love for me....he does not begrudge me my dogs. He loves them and takes care of them. He accepts that my love for animals is part of who I am. But I did convince him to pick out his dog. He wanted a "manly" dog...so he got a boxer for himself. That way he doesn't feel left out. I do manage to devote my time to my kids and pets. We go to the doggie park as a family on the weekends. My kids love it...lots of dogs...and my dogs and husband love being outdoors. We walk the dogs together...maybe if you could incorporate the care for the animals as family time....maybe that would help with any resentment.

yeah I totally concur about the having children part. it's highly time that you guys have a baby, instead of a third dog! Or you might also need some marriage consuling. Seems like she doens't want to put any effort into the marriage!
