That's a good question and frankly not one I can answer, all I can proffer is an additional poser, why is it " I'm having a sh#t." This seems to imply ingestion of some sort, similar to " I'm having Egg & Chips". Perhaps back in the days when phrases like these appear to have been coined tea time was a far more unsavoury affair than we enjoy today.......kid's these days don't know they've been born I tell you! Perhaps it was an aid to taking the edge off what was possibly a very bad case of hallitosis, bad teeth you see.... Toodle Pip!

mr goose has of course committed a primary school boy error in his thinking,,,,,, 'dump' as we know it today is an english derivative of the Guargos word 'umpd' which as is well known in the international fishing community as the definition for cod gillet scrapings....... a prized possession in the waters around Scotland ...... which are eagerly sought and 'TAKEN' ..... hence the expression "taking a dump"..... simple really

This stems from the Koran. Its root is in the names of characters in that great book - I think it was one of Grishams best.
