I am not in the medical field. But I do know that an esophagus is a tube connecting the mouth or pharynx, with
the stomach gullet. Usually if there is an "otomy" connected at the end of a word like that, it involves some type of surgery. So I can only assume it is a surgery pertaining "to" the esophagus. Otherwise, you may want to go to the library and look it up in a medical book.

if i'm correct it has to do with an incision in the esophagas in order to retrieve tissue for analysis
