This is just speculation and opinion but I would imagine that because there wasn't, yet, written guidance from God on how to experience him in worship, Abraham's dedication to God made him upright in God's eyes. I mean think about it, Abraham shifted his entire life on God saying, "take up your family and go to a place that I will show you". That takes not only guts but a very unique kind of connection with our Father that we are fortunate to be able experience today, and probably much more easily because we have so many outlets to be exposed to God.

Tell God just how you are feeling. You don't need special words or a special place to pray. pray right where you are at. God will hear your prayer, in fact He already knows exactly what you want He's just waiting for you to come to Him. When you do let Him guide you and follow staying true to Him. God bless you!

You become a friend of God when you do his will, when you walk in righteousness and when you put all your faith in him as Abraham did.
